JDMJOSH Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 as soon as I can sell my sandy 4000+ my question is will I need to re-install windows or can I just drop the new processor in no questions asked?
dab Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I just dropped an Opty 165 in where the Venice 3000+ was, and voila, she goes. Windows took a couple of reboots and some programs need tweaks but yeah, it was painless. EDIT: Be sure to put your settings back to stock before you remove the old cpu, or better yet clear the cmos altogether before installing the new cpu!! michaelzhao Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Yeah, with changing processor, just drop and go. And yep, like dab said, make sure you clear your CMOS.
jeffdawgfan Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 You'll love the OPTY. Clear Cmos, pop it in and away you go. I am stable at around 2580, air cooling and stock voltage. While your at it add some PC 4000 memory so you don't have to divide your memory clock. I takes good memory to keep up with this processor.
