xirokx Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Hi, I am in the process of building a new rig specs are as follows: DFI NF4 SLI DR mobo Opty 170 Zalman 9500LED 2g GSKILL RAM 500 Antec PSU 150g Raptor Last night I installed the CPU, HSF and RAM then tried to boot it up outside of the case, the board was on cardboard.... 2 orange lights lit up on the board, the red light flashed, the chipset fan and my hsf fan spun for a few seconds then it switched itself off.... So I tried with 1 stick of RAM only and the same thing happened.... The ram was plugged into the orange slots... In terms of power all I connected from PSU to MOBO was the small 4 plug pin and then the large 20 pin or 24 but its directly infront of the small 4 plug pin on this board.... There is another 4 pin rectangle lead from my PSU but I dont think that goes anywhere, there is nowhere for it to go on the mobo anyhow.... It seems as if the board is not getting enough power as it starts for a few seconds (2 - 3 secs) then switches off.... Please help..... Thanks in advance... Qw3r7y Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 You could try reading the initial build thred "sticky" at the top of this forum: link = http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20832 I think it has pictures etc... of what should be where. I'd take everything off a carefully and put it all back in making sure it's all seated properly. To be sure, to be sure!

xirokx Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 ahh i only have the 24 pin connector and the 4 pin connector plugged in... pls clarify why i need to plug the molex connector and the floppy connector in as well? I will definately give this a try as the molex connector and floppy connector are not installed at the moment... thanks for your replies
Guest Retratserif Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 It supossively makes it more stable. I am not currently using mine atm, but thats my fault when my mobo shuts down on me. If you have the connectors then connect them. All of that is in the manual. You also want to try to use a good, stable pc3200 ram stick to get the first boot. Once booted, Memtest your PC4000 one stick at a time, then both at the same time for 3 hours at each setting while setting your timings per FSB. Before you do anything else just start reading the stickies. Take a day off just to do that and you will feel alot better once you get back into your work. xirokx Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 hi, thanks for your reply... regarding stickies other than a) Clear CMOS recovery and B) NF4 Ultra-D Step by Step New Build are there any others you can kindly recommend? Please advise Thanks in advance...
Qw3r7y Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I haven't time to post thread links at the mo but do a forum search for RAM guides and PSU (power supply) guides and read some of what is thrown up. There is a very good RAM guide (including compatibility lists) somewhere and also a list of PSU's that are known to be issue free and DFI friendly. I'd see if you can find them... Or you may get lucky and someone who has them book marked can post them for you?!?!..... .......Read, read some more, then read that little bit extra! xirokx Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Please confirm if I have attached the power cables correctly: I am using a antec 500w psu and trying to powerup my dfi sli dr mobo 1) 24 pin from psu to mobo 2) 4 pin from psu to mobo 3) 4 pin molex from psu to mobo 4) floppy connector to female connector on a 4 pin molex from number 3 to psu... I tried powering it up this way and still it went on for like 2 secs then shut down.. I dont know if its not getting enough power or if there is a problem with the mobo....The hsf will not spin but the chipset cooler spins for all of 2 secs... Can someone who is using an antec 500w supply please help me as the stickies are great but do not show which cables from the hundreds you get with a new psu you shud use.... Please help Thanks
supershanks Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 if the hsf isn't spinning up have you plugged the power lead in from it. There is afailsafe mechanism that prevent startuop if cpu fan has no power.
xirokx Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I plugged the hsf into the cpu fan socket on the mobo......this was always connected... hmmmm any other ideas? I could really do with someone who has this powersupply or a similar one to show me some pics of how they have set theirs up so I can confirm mine is correct... Although I have mounted the mobo in the case now I have not connected a gfx card, I am merely trying to boot up with the psu, hsf, cpu, 2 sticks of ram....I press the on switch on the mobo but after two secs it switches off... Please help thanks
xirokx Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 its alive I just help the power switch down for like three seconds and it kept the power.....did not turn off etc woohooo......... thanks for your help
supershanks Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Did u try it out of the case as shown in the build guide. It's unusual for both fans not to spin - check that you've plugged cpu h/sink lead into a fan header - check with manual diagram Manual - LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR see around p17 , try the header next to it as well. Have you got the manual for your PSU - download it from the antec site in my earlier link & check you have all connected correctly. EDIT: Nice going - Enjoy
