CPDMF Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Water cooling would me first choice for a rig that sweet. For air cooling my first pick would be a Thermalright XP-90C and a Panaflo M1A.
WSDcomputer Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 yeah i was thinking more of air coling for my first built rig does the xp-90c / panaflo M1A fit + work nicely on an Opty 146?
red930 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 does the xp-90c / panaflo M1A fit + work nicely on an Opty 146? It would work fine. Personally I don't care for them though because the spring clip design (in my opinion) is terrible. I prefer bolt-on designs like Zalman uses, they cost more though. They would both probably have around the same temps, though of course that is dependdant on the fan you choose for the XP-90, also depends on your internal case temp of course. WSDcomputer Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 i can choose different fans for the xp-90? does that mean i would have to buy another fan (90mm/120mm) and replace the stock fan? or is there no fan to begin with =o would an antec super lan boy be good tower for keeping the inside cool? Guest caffeinejunkie Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Yes the clips on the xp90 are def a pain but lapped and with the right fan it's hard to beat yes the xp90 does not come with a fan on mine I have an 80mm tornado with a fan controler to keep it down from a roar lol so just get a good 80mm,92mm, or 120mm(aslong as it doesnt have too bad of a dead spot)
WSDcomputer Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 dead spot meaning? =o
WSDcomputer Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 hmm have any of you tried a Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu Silent CPU Cooling Kit? because im thinking about having my motherboard, pcu, + fan installed by monarch... and they dont have many options for the fan that they will include w. the pcu
Guest caffeinejunkie Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 well 120 fans have a large motor and that would considered the dead spot as in a spot with no airflow since a 120mm fan on the xp90 hangs over the edges most people believe it wont cool as well as an 80 because of that "deadspot" in the middle but im sure a 120 would work fine and then it would also give some extra cooling to your ram
Kandoo Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Since the heatpipes are located on the sides of the xp-90, then there is no issue about dead spots? I have a xp-90c with 92mm panaflow on my opty146 with ultra-d and my idle temps are 28c with a room temp 70-72f. The only advantage of the si-120 vs xp-90 is more air flow to your other componets like ram... also it easer to remove your ram.
