EdLSmith Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 That is best way to build, test and load. Once you've got it cheched out and working stable, then install in the case. I keep a spare PSU and a few other parts to make it easier.
Qw3r7y Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 I run mobo's out of case quite a bit. It'll be fine. Don't know what the foam will be like though!?!? I'd be a little worried about how heat friendly the foam is all. If you don't have a proper non-conductive surface try putting it on the anti-static wrapping it came in. Also be carefull about knocking peripherals that are plugged into it. Easily done when out of case and easy to damage pins/sockets like that. (I know!) Lastly I's say try and leave the PSU lead in at all times (so long as you won't trip over them!). This grounds the board (even when off) and stops the possibility of you zapping it with static.
