G.Skill overclocking?

Recommended Posts

I just picked a set of the HZ's and can't seem to get past 262 (@ 3-4-3-8 1T) or so. Anything above 262, I get numerous errors in memtest, even if I loosen my timings to 3-5-5-8. That being said, I get the feeling that my problem lies in the crappy mem controller on this clawhammer. I'm going to try flashing w/ the newest bios today + moving the sticks around (try every combination of stick/slot) to try and squeeze a few more mhz out. My cpu is good for another 100 mhz or so, so I'd really like to up that FSB if possible. Anyone have any suggestions/experiences as to running high FSB on a clawhammer?

Run them at 3-4-4-8 @ 2.6volts...but if it still might not overclock past 262...you never know with RAM you might get a set that OC to 300...or a set that won't do 255.

as long as they run 250, an rma would not be fair! overclocking ram is the same as overclocking a cpu....if you get a bad clocker, resell and buy a new set.

returning stuff cause it dont clock as high as you like...is dirty.....imho

After I seemed to hit the wall at 3-4-3-8 at 262, I first tried 3-4-4-8, then 3-5-5-8 (at 2.6 volts), and still can't get past 262. This, coupled w/ the fact that my last set of memory stopped at almost the exact same place leads me to believe that I'm limited by either my motherboard or memory controller on the cpu. Oddly enough, I could circumvent this restriction w/ my old memory (512x2) by running at ~300 x 8 with a 9:10 divider and got them up to 267-270. This doesn't seem to help with this 2gb set.

I really think these sticks have some more head room in them, just wish I had an NF4 rig to test them in =( I'm testing now with a divider in hopes of finding something in the 240 range with tighter timings that'll work well.
