daslickone Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I know nothig about IT stuff. How do I get my onboard erthenet plug in to work? I plug my cable in and cant connect to the net. I'm pretty sure the right stuff is enabled in BIOS. I do not want to have to Install Nv Firewall. PCI Connect card works but not Onboard. OverByter Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Have you installed the ethernet drivers?
wevsspot Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 There are two ethernet solutions on your board. The nVidia LAN and the Marvell LAN. The drivers for your nVidia LAN will be included in your chipset driver pack. The drivers for the Marvell LAN are included on the motherboard installation disk. Pick which one you wish to use and make sure to install the drivers (or you can enable both LAN's and install drivers for both also). You'll need to enter your BIOS and make sure that you have properly enabled the LAN solution (or solutions you choose to use). If you are using the nVidia LAN, make sure to set the connection type from Pin Strap to RGMII. That option is in the same BIOS location where you enable your ethernet LAN. After making the appropriate BIOS changes and installing the drivers, reboot and you should be good to go. Do not install nVidia Active Armour or nVidia Firewall. They have always been problematic for me on my network (wired and wireless).
DFI939 Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 So to inturupt but you seem like you might know why they have two lan cards. This seems pointless to me. Why do they make the boards with two network cards?
ICON57 Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 a few different reasons.... 1. if you had 2 computers and didnt have a router, you could have the 2nd comp access the internet, through the first computers lan. 2. in work, we have a rig i built using an msi mobo, with 2 lan ports, the 1st one we use to access the internet, the second is used for connecting to a wide format printer. those are just a few examples....hope that clears it up for you

wevsspot Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 open a command prompt and ping www.yahoo.com see if you get a ping response are you running through a router? do you have a software based firewall running? 1394 is your firewire
Guest Kobalt Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 So to inturupt but you seem like you might know why they have two lan cards. This seems pointless to me. Why do they make the boards with two network cards? 2 NICs are useful and 1 can be connected to WAN (cable/dsl modem) the other to LAN. You can use the Gigabit one for LAN, with a crossover cable, and have a VERY fast LAN, instead of the slower max of 100Mbps most NICs have. This make a HUGE difference for things like file servers, and streaming media files and so on. Also, once it is connected, you usually have to power cycle the cable/dsl modem & router) so that the cable/dsl company can give you a IP address. sbud Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 I have the exact same problem daslickone..... My cable will only connect through the Marvell connection and not through Nvidia's LAN. I've been searching for a remedy for a while and have had no luck.
