old_geekster Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I just completed my first build from scratch (with some help from a friend.). I connected two Hitachi, SATA, 80GB HDD's. One of the drives is connected to SATA 1 and the other to SATA 2. Both appear in the BIOS, but they are both shown as "Masters". I didn't see any jumpers on the drives, so I believed that the settings would be done in the BIOS. Since this is my first experience with SATA drives, I would appreciate it if you can tell me what I did wrong or is this normal? Also, when I boot the "DFI splash screen appears, then it does a BIOS check and says that it was updated okay, but then it hangs. Advice please. OverByter Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 There is no master/slave relationship with sata drives, each drive is master on it's own channel.
old_geekster Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Thanks, OverByter. I thought that was the case, but didn't want to take a chance.

red930 Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Also, when I boot the "DFI splash screen appears, then it does a BIOS check and says that it was updated okay, but then it hangs. Like, hanging when its looking for an operating system and not finding one? Or hanging somewhere else... By the way..I'd shut off the splash screen in the bios. I prefer seeing the whole posting process.
