manjina Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Hi all I've overclocked my Opteron to 2.7Ghz but had to up the vcore to 1.6 to get it stable. Temps at load are 49-52C depending on ambient temp. My concern is whether this vcore is too high. Previously had it at 2.6Ghz on 1.475 vcore.
fabiaN Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I would settle for 2.6 but thats just me
Daddyjaxx Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Me too. Too much voltage for a minimal amount, If anyone says they can tell the difference of 100 MHz, they're lying.
ropittbul Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I have an opty 146 @ 2800mhz core default 3000mhz 1.550+104.7% . 3400 1.550+107.%. I olso have a opty 170 @ 3000 mhz vcore default but whatever the voltage incrise can't get 3200mhz stable. The " good " temperature for opty is ~ 45C. Over 50 it is not safty in my opinion. The voltage , if isn't cooled right don't give more than 1.550 + 104.7%. This voltages are on my rdx200cf-dr. Should be similar on your dfi. Burky Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Stick at 2.61ghz like said before. I have to go up to 1.5v to get 2.7ghz and that's too much for my liking, but I don't want to take any chances with my opteron. I think 1.55v with good cooling is a general maximum (though much debate I'm sure), but above that is surely bad news. Your temps are too hot btw. Oceanborn Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 AT 1.6V for a chip that defaults at 1.35v you're asking for trouble.... be happy with 2.6 and put that voltage down....
soloz2 Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 for me about .2v above stock is pretty much the limit I'll go. Right now I've got my opty 148 at 3Ghz (273x11) at 1.6v and my temps are fine thanks to my wc (below 40 load and about 26 idle)
icywater Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 i have a crappy step opty 170, I run it at 1.6volt to get 2700MHz. I don't have any problem. My CPU is nake and is water cool with a Storm G5 water block. It never exceed the 45 degrees mark at fully load, idle around 29 degrees. ropittbul Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 In my opinion 1.550+104.7% it isn't a very high voltage IF the cpu is right cooled. But to run an 146 at 2800mhz vcore def i say that is very good. To incrise the votlage up to 1.550+104.7% ( or more ) to get an extra 200~ mhz ........no good ;p. icywater @ my 170 at 3000mhz vcore def , it is hot enought . I must cool it with Peltier element and skythe ninja. Only the ninja with a papst 92mm 5000tpm = 43 C full load and 28 idile. + Peltier 15C full load , 7C~ idile. The sistem is build by my self. manjina @ how those redline pc4000 work ??? maxim oc ???can you tell me please
manjina Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Only had the Redline for one week so dont know how far they will go. Had them stable at 260. Perform best at 2.6 - 2.8 vdimm. From Mushkin forums, appears they are not the best overclockers and many report 260mhz to be the limit. Some get to 270 but thats seems rare. Found one report of them going to 280. Hope that helps. Thanks for the advice guys. It does seem a large increase in vcore for only 100mhz gain. I'm very happy with 2.6 so no doubt thats what I'll go back to. Cheers

eliatamby Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 the temp spec for opty I think is up to 65 deg innit? You've got heaps of headroom before you reach critical temps
