greavo Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Hi, i have just built a new computer about 1 week ago, everything went smooth. i installed windows xp home and to my dismay the xp splash screen, where the bar goes across, took 28 OMG. Spec.. AMD 4000+ 1gb ram nvidia 6800gs 512mb dfi lanparty ut sli d 120gb seagate sata hard-drive nec dvd drive i was expecting about 4 or 5 bars to go across as my old machine only took 11 and that was crap. so after rebooting a few time i left it. a few days ago i decided to install xp pro to see if that would make a difference. but it took exactly the same amount of time. i tried msconfig in run and removed some startup applications, did nothing. when running, fine, everything open instantly and games are fine everything fine but stupid logon. what does everyone think my problem could be...??? i would very much appreciate help..?? thanks
centy Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Not sure you should be timing it by the number of bars it takes to load. These things are usually measured in seconds. Also read the forum rules, make yourself a sig that isn't pointless, by adding some information to it.
greavo Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Ok i will nd it roughly takes about 30-35 second, thats just the time spent on the windows splash screen, it doesn't include everything else, although after when you hear the music it takes about 3-4 secs to be up and running! greavo Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 So what do you suggest, have i not set up my bios properly or something as people say that the dfi mobos are hard to set up??

Branjo Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Well since your not running any IDE HDD's I would disable them in the BIOS and disabe any SATA ports that your not using either. I have to admit I use the loading bar too as a boot time mental test, My RAID gives 2 loading bars but my single SATA b4 the raid was only 1, it didnt even reach the end. 28 is very long indeed, I myself would be concerned about reducing that also. Sometimes if I leave a CD or DVD in the CD Drive the boot is longer especially if its a DVD with just Data on it
greavo Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 I suppose, its just the really annoying fact that i built myself a new comp to get away from loading times, its a fairly decent spec, nothing amazing, but still only 700, and now this stupid loading time, my old comp only took abot 13 seconds on this, not 30!!!!. Ill try the disable thing.
rujona Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 i have the exact same problem! actually i got windows to boot up in 5-6 seconds on my 2nd reformat. But something went wrong so i reformatted again for the 3rd and 4th time, but i'm having the same issue. it takes 30+ seconds just on the splash screen. bios was not configured on the 2nd - 4th reformat. rujona Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Ok, now it's booting up as it always did. I stuck my DFI CD in and installed all 4 drivers. Before, I didn't install the IDE something driver. So try that. Either that, or the 6th reforrmat decided to work.
Branjo Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 I hear alot of people saying not to use the Nvidia IDE driver, It works perfect for me no problems with it at all, I do get problems if I don't install it however.
