Problems galore, bf2/bios

Recommended Posts

Hey guys ive recently put my comp all together and its been a very unstable process. So i was hoping i could get some advice before i decide to RMA all my parts because I'm running out of ideas. My parts arein my sig, and i bought them all brand new from newegg, or monarch. And for people wondering, why i bought pc 4000 ram was cuz i was planning to overclock my CPU to match it. The system powers up and loads OS, but it has the utmost extreme difficulty playing BF2, in used to load up the game but would get "connection lost" frequently.

I recently formatted in hopes of fixing the problem, the game wont even start now, it would begin loading, screen turns black, then it would crash back to desktop with no message or error. Also during start-up the bios would freeze after identifying my CPU, it would juss freeze at that screen and not progress, and Ctrl+Alt+del wouldn't even work, Ive tried swapping out the powersupply and the ram and the mobo, the problem still persists. I'm trying one last run at fixing this comp before i completely parting out my comp and RMAing each piece. THe problem must lie somewhre, i dont think it could be my HD since i formatted it twice, and the video card was brand new and seems to run perfectly. If anyone has any ideas i would be thankful and gladly hear them out, this is my last run at it, thanks in advance i hope someone could share their knowledge that might know the problem.

chipset drivers????

AMD X2 driver???

all FOUR powerlegs plugged into board?????

it is hard for me to believe that you plan on returning everything.

please expand a bit on your fresh install of the OS sequence, chipset drivers, AGP drivers stuff like that.

i think you are just a step or two away from getting it right.

Got the lates chipset drivers straight from Nvidia, all power is plugged into the board and ive spent like 3 weeks pulling my hair out tryin to get it to run right, which is why i have like 7 boxes ready to ship everything back, the problem is extremely hard to isolate, i dont haev any more sata HD's, pci-e vid cards, or amd x2 chips, Drivers were directly from EVga's website, chipset drivers directly from Nvidia website, and OS was Windows XP professional

you need to isolate the problem somehow.

it more than likely is either a MB with some bad juju, your memory or possibly the PS.

all you need is the install CD, i am running with the drivers that came with the board, all i did was flash to the most recent beta bios (3/2, i think).

there is nothing wrong with PC4000, heck, i am running with pc4800 stuffs...as far as the connection lost problem, have you tried a PCI ethernet rather than the onboard?

maybe try and putting the Mac Lan address in the bios it is located on the actual port you are using, just look at the MB, you will see it.

i really don't think it is as bad as it seems.

just start completely over, take everything out

clear CMOS following exroadie guide (Search)

follow the ed jacobson build guide found here in the forums (Search)

install cpu, 1 stick ram, vid card... boot into bios, load optimized defaults

memtest each stick for 8 passes, then memtest both sticks, then if all that works ok, install windows with slipstreamed xp-sp2 cd (format hard drive of course)

install 6.70 drivers (if not doing raid, recommend not installing SW-ide, def no nvidia firewall), video drivers, DL all windows updates

then run prime 95 for 24 hours, if it can pass that, you are stable!!! GL (seems like a lot, but you need to go slow and try and find out where the problem is!!

In device manager under the "computer" tree which hal Processor driver is it using? If it's "acpi uniprocessor" try changing it to ACPI multiprocessor. I think that's the correct hal for dual cores. I don't know if that's the problem but it might not hurt to try it. I had some trouble with hal's and it kinda' looks possible.

First are you memtest stable that can help isolate the memory

second are you prime stable if you are memtest stable this will idolate the CPU.

Third what does your PSU report? You can look in bios and look with the program that comes with the VD. The best way of cource is to use a multi meter.

Foruth what drivers and version of direct x are you using and have you tred more than one.

Fith have you tried norml 3d programs for testing?

Sixth have you tested your connection and tried the second port.

Reinstalling windows- see link in sig. If it doesnt mess up elseware it could very well be drivers and a bad internet connection can mess things up too is there any other problems with theis computer is it memtest stable etc?

I would recomend the latest direct X from microsoft or BF. the MB drivers off the CD that came with the board and video card drivers from nvidia rather than the ones with the cards. If you dont do a full reinstall of windows afer getting memtest stable use drivercleaner prior to reinstall of drivers.

You might alo need to do the dual card game fix- making only one core work on the game but start the problem fix in order.

Ive reformatted the computer, and used my SP1 Professional CD since i thought my XP sp2 mighta have been a source of problems, the game can load BF-2 now, but i get repeated disconnects ranging from hours of playing, to sometimes back to back disconnects, ive already tried switching a PCI lan card and im still getting the same problem, i ran the memory test, and both sticks cleared the test, thinking of flashing the bios, but which version is recommended and where do i get it?

Edit: and thanks guys for all the help i really appreciate it, im losing hair daily because of this problem, i dont think its my router cuz my brother is on the same router and he plays it just fine. Heck im not even sure its the Mobo cuz ive tried the PCI card and ive tried using an ASUS a8n-sli board, and im still getting the disconnects from BF2.

First thing to do is run memtest for a couple of hours. Also can you put put your RAM timmings, Vcore, and Vdimm settings into your sig. Are you overclocking the CPU yet?

Tried any other PC game yet? BF2 is inherriantly unstable and poor tester for system stability.

Did you install the nVidia Active Armour or nVidia Firewall? If so, uninstall them. Did you install the nVidia SW IDE driver? If so uninstall it. And of course, all of the recommendations above.

I beleive the board is running the 6/23 bios (so my friend says) where would i check to make sure though? No i did not install active armor or firewall since there notorious for being hell raisers. I already ran the mem test for a few horus, took like 3-4 hours, passed the test juss fine =X Juss got some HD's from staples gonna try to see if Pata drive runs stable versus Sata, I only really play BF2 at the moment, i know the game has crap netcode, but i have 3 other friends on the same line runnin the same game, im the only one who craps out. Thanks again for the input guys
