euclid Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 ive been screwing around with a few different configurations and im not sure what to do at this point. short of switching back to Nvidia. card is x1900xt 512mb heres the problems. 6.4 drivers give screen corruption which doubles my boot time. 6.3 drivers dont have corruption but windows reports of unknown devices on the x1900xt and prompts to load drivers that i dont have. this is the same for the OmegaDrivers as thay are based on the 6.3 ATI drivers. i tried to get rid of CCC and use ATI Tray Tools but the overclock functionality is not supported for the x1900series and it is permantly running 2D settings even in 3D apps. THERE IS NOT ONE SINGLE TWEAK GUIDE ONLINE FOR ATT AND THE SUPPORT FORUMS ARE USELESS. otherwise i think its a cool program, uses hardly any resources and destroys CCC regarding funtionality. What are WDM drivers for (included in the 6.4 driver pack)? can i use ATItool without CCC? if so and i overclock with ATItool will it affect ATI Tray Tools as well? also about every 5 minutes it looks as if my screen is refreshing itself, like a single flicker as if the drivers are switching a setting. ANY info about what other x1900 users are running would be beneficial at this point. i have to work tomorrow morning and im trying to sort this out so i dont have to think anymore. thanks. EDIT: i downloaded ATItool and find that it will coexist with ATI Tray Tools without problems. but overclocking with ATItool i cant even get my core to reach stock 3d speeds it maxes at 610mhz at 100% fan speed then system crashes. with CCC i was easily running stock 625 speed at like 30%fan usage. WTF?
sora3 Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 The WDM is only for VIVO so if you're connected to the TV, then you'll need these. ATI Tools pretty much DOESN'T need CCC from my knowledge. Did you full clean the previous drivers as in Uninstall/reboot/DriverCleaner/install? Sounds to me that you've got a borked driver that you haven't uninstalled the drivers properly... euclid Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 ive been using driver cleaner pro each time. im finding i can only run 6.4 drivers in combination with WDMdrivers in order to have all x1900xt devices recongnized. with 6.3 i am getting 2 devices on the card that dont have drivers. niether ATITool nor ATI Tray Tools are reporting accurate clocks when the card switches to 3d mode. they stay at defualt 2d values 500/594, so i have NO IDEA what that means in terms of overclocking settings. the only way i am actually even able to see this 2d/3d switch to 623/720 is by installing Catalyst Control Center, which is a resource hog itself and also requires .NET i leave CCC, ATItool, ATItraytools all open on second monitor in extended desktop mode. then i open 3d application on primary monitor and then watch in real time as CCC switch values while the other two programs sit dormant. this happens with all ATI services and startup items on or off, doesnt make a difference. all these factors + the problems highlighted in my first post = x1900xt is getting returned unless something magical sorts all this crap out tomorrow
SquattingDog Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 6.4 drivers give screen corruption which doubles my boot time. 6.3 drivers dont have corruption but windows reports of unknown devices on the x1900xt and prompts to load drivers that i dont have. this is the same for the OmegaDrivers as thay are based on the 6.3 ATI drivers. WTF? 6.4 Drivers are giving me two unknown devices, but I accidentally downloaded the windows-update drivers (which did bugger-all but tell me what kinda card i was running prior to installing the proper drivers (on a fresh install of windows)). This didn't happen to my when I first installed the 6.3 drivers. Try applying the Chuck patch too, if you are going to play Oblivion. Keep trying with the ATITools - you will probably need to increase the voltage in ATITools, up to 1.425 (the stock for that card in 3dmode) which is porbably your issue with crashing/max fan speeds and not OCing well. There is a way to make seperate 2d/3d profiles (but thusfar I haven't bothered, somehow ATITool never really appealed to me...meh...just haven't used it enough. CCC OCing is enough for now on my XTX. DON'T GO nVIDIA! GAH @[email protected](you can if you want, I just had to say that). I also read in several forums that ATITool doesn't usually coexist well with CCC or ATI Tray Tools. Maybe you're getting a conflict from ATI Tray Tools. Also ensure that you have the beta version of ATITool, as the other versions don't have proper support for X1900 series cores... euclid Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 thanks for the info, i am using the 0.25beta 14 but i didnt realize that the 2d settings actually undervolted as well. thats probibly why i was not able to run 3d stock clocks, i need to up the voltage. i also found a nice ATItool guide http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=gethowto&...=160&howtoID=61 i am going to do fresh windows install and give this whole operation a second shot. i reinstalled my Nvidia card and drivers this morning and instantly realized that in only two days ATItray tools has spoiled me rotten in craptionality. i am going to wait it out and hope for smoother operation in catalyst 6.5, i still need to resolve the screen corruption at bootup somehow, all my devices are recognized in 6.4 with the WDM drivers. so hopefully i can sucessfully bypass CCC, use ATItool for overclocking and then ATItraytools for settings adjustsments. euclid Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 i know this has been dead for awhile but i feel inclined to update. 6.5 drivers elimiated the screen corruption at bootup bug. my current setup is 6.5 drivers and wdm, ati tray tools for adjustment, ati tool for overclocking. all seems to be playing nice together. EllisD Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 At the moment, i would probably suggest using the new Omega 6.5 drivers with the old style control panel and tweaking clock speeds with ATiTool. ATiTool is in dire need of an update but the next release should be quite nice with the 1900 series cards. Give those a shot to see if you fair any better.
