Bye bye DFI :(

Recommended Posts

I bid a sad farewell to my old NF3 250GB today - finally laid it to rest after purchasing an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Board. Well, I gave it to my GF, which is the same thing - it's dead to me now ...

I was pretty much unwilling to replace my EVGA 7800GS for the same thing just in PCI-E, so I went as high as I could with AGP - which turned out to be this Ebay'd C$30 MSI.

I actually wanted a new DFI considering all my luck with my NF3, but they didn't actually make a 939/AGP setup that looked as slick as the Neo2... Except for the Ultra-D - which was more expensive and harder to find.

So I transferred over all the HDDs and cooling equipment today and fired her up with a new Opteron170... WOW. So fast, and overclocks like a dream!

The K8N Neo2 Platinum is a wonderful motherboard. I've got one running at home. It used to be my mainboard, but a lucky daughter inherited it when I built my first DFI based rig. That MSI board has ran for over a year solid with an AMD3000 Venus, overclocked at 2.7ghz and OCZ PC3700 Gold memory. Just a great great board. Sorry DFI didn't have anything that suited your needs.
