allthatwhichis Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 You could always toss in a cheapo vid card since you're prolly not gonna be using super high resolutions. Nah, too much trouble... SLi means too much to me, and another card would just take up psu space. and clutter an already cluttered case.
Guest YuKoN Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 YuKoN, thats a very low price for that screen. I think it would be perfect for temp readings. There is no sence buying a big dollar screen just to show temps. besides-ya gotta have toys to mod play with!!!Here is a 4" screen I found, note the price!!http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/ind...roducts_id=4268 I checked your link, and that's a pretty cool looking unit- but at that price! Mine was so cheap cuz it's used off of ebay. And damn, I can make a bracket pretty easily. I'm not 100% sure that I want it in the drive bays anyhow. I'll probably opt to put it into the plexi side window. I was thinking of putting it into the forwardmost portion of the top panel(my case sits under the desk on a pedestal so I could see it), but thought it might be a dust collector there. The side panel idea, upper right area near the drive bays, should be cool. Heck, it's all pcb's and wires in there anyway, so if it's guts are showing it'll be in theme. It'll be easier to clean the plexi too without worry of getting anything into the lcd. Be patient guys- I'll post pics as soon as it's done! It hasn't even arrived yet, and I'm already chomping at the bit to tear it apart! I'll try to photo it like a worklog for those who are interested. Gonna be a week or two before completion(if it ever arrives!).

Guest YuKoN Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 She's arrived. Got my cheapo screen- not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It looks and works well. 720x480 fits the screen size the best, which is perfect for what I had in mind. easy to hook up- just out the s-video adapter, yellow rca and done. works great. I did have to download ultramon just to get the seperate taskbars and wallpapers working as I like, but otherwise very easy to do. now comes the next step- I have to decide just how I'm going to mod it into the case! surprisingly, I almost wish I'd gotten a smaller one! It's screen alone(naked) is probably 1/2" taller than 2 drivebays, width is just about perfect, and of course it's not very thick. this presents a problem, because although I had thought to mount it in the sidepanel, I can't see it clearly at that angle. and it just won't fit nicely into the drivebays. so for now- it's sitting next to my speakers and primary monitor. Right in line of sight, can't go wrong. I'm thinking of maybe modding it into my desk instead. It works real good for viewing music videos when websurfing too- as I am right now. If I come up with (or see) a better idea I'll post again- until then, I'll try out a few different configs. suggestions are welcome! allthatwhichis Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Good luck with that! You may find that the extra inch or inch and a half you get from using 3 drive bays, if the third is available, will give you extra space for the mount you use. Mine is about a half inch too side to use the drive bay.
