ianmknight Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Hello, Can I run ATI master and slave graphics cards in a Ultra-D nF4 or Expert MB so I can run CrossFire, or have I mist somthing?. I ask because I have an ATi in my UltraD at this time and I really like the ultra wide desktop in two monitor mode that Hydravions gives. CPDMF Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 No Crossfire on nVidia based boards.
red930 Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 That's right, Crossfire on CrossFire boards only since the nVIDIA chipset is different compared to the ATI Xpress design.

Nope,  Crossfire is propriatary to ATI chipsets and dont see ATI ever releasing thay instruction set anytime soon. So pick your path:  Do I go all Nvidia? Do I go all ATI? Thraxz Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Both companies are being stupid, really. In ATI's case, I'd be willing to buy an ATI 1800/1900 card and run it rather than my 7900 gt if it was scaleable like the SLI. But guess what? My SLI board can't run two 1800/1900's. Good job ATI, because you can't share your super secret instructions you lost out on two video card purchases. I suppose nVidia made out, but, they should take into consideration that more people with ATI cards would buy their nf4 chipsets were they compatible with Crossfire. Both situations apply vice versa and officially irritate me about both companies.
adreno Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Its getting really hard to choose. I'm working on a new build and can't bend my mind around what ATI and nVidia are doing. Its seems that you either pick one or the other, and then you are stuck with that until the next great thing, and then you are probably faced with replacing most everything. There was a time when there was an upgrade path, but that seems to be no more. Â So if I don't care so much about Crossfire or SLI configuration, whats the best way to go for now. NF4 Ultra-D is a super mobo and prooven. Still there are some pretty interesting results coming out of the CFX3200-DR discussion. Any thoughts? I'm trying to sort this out for a new build but its really confusing.

Angry_Games Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 you can, however, run Crossfire on Intel 955X and 975X chipsets  (i'll show you all of this in about 5-7 days when my Asus 975X motherboard arrives hehe)
Thraxz Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Another reason to swap back to intel when good ol' Conroe comes.
dab Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 You can, however, possibly run SLI on a crossfire board.. http://www.xbitlabs.com/web/display/20060501132927.html

Nehil Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 If they can make SLI run on a CF system ATi shouldn't keep CF a secret but help develop a hybrid board by helping nVidia run CF on SLi boards.
