DFI LP NFII Ultra B & 4 Red LEDS

Recommended Posts

I tried the 'insert' key trick but it didn't work...still faced with the dreaded 4 red leds...will wait until I get the borrowed bios chip to see if that's the problem and post back results when I get the chance.

I dont think the insert trick will work if the bios is fubard....

Just make sure with the new bios you MAKE SURE the board is "juice free" in the cmos or else when you install the new bios it WILL fubar it upon boot up....

EDIT: Did you try HotFlashing the bios via the Diamond Flash Image....?

Install the flash image on another NF2 rig and create the floppy....once done follow the hot flash guide...

Yeah I didn't think the insert trick would work as I suspected the bios is fubar but I did it anyways just to see. Of course it didn't work. I did create a properly bootable floppy with awdflash and the latest official bios version for the LP NFII Rev B. I used my NF7-S v2.0 system to host the hotflash procedure and it went without incident. I could see that it wrote correctly without errors unlike what I saw when I used T-mod's DVD the first time. I guess it's really important to use the proper command line parameters (/py /sn /cc /cd /cp /LD /f /E) for a hotflash procedure which needs to be done under DOS.

However, even though the hotflash sequence went correctly, the board still did not POST and the dreaded 4 red leds reared their ugly eyes at me

I guess the board is dead...

Have you tried it with just the cpu, one stick of memory, and the video card?

You might also want to double check to make sure the clear CMOS jumper is in the run position (and that the jumper is good). Sounds stupid, I know..... but I don't want to tell you how many times I've gotten 4 led's of death because I had the jumper in the wrong position. :tooth:

Yeah I thought of that too. I looked carefully at the manual to confirm the proper placement but I did try pins 1&2 and 2&3 just to be sure. The jumper appears to be making proper contact because of the friction I feel.

BTW, I did try a Geforce 2 Ultra, 1-2 sticks of Corsair (PC3200 2x256mb) CH-5 and PATA 80 gig HD. The power supply is a Enermax 431watt. I moved the memory into different slots combinations. Nothing worked.

Now I think the board is bad...

Sometimes they recomend flashing the chip 2 or 3 times in a row just to make sure it flashed correctly...

sent PM....

EDIT:....I am starting to think the DFI LP-B NF2 is more tempormental than anything....

I have heard of people getting 4led's by the cmos jumper in clear then booting....

On my old Gigabyte 7n400pro and 7nnxp you clear the cmos jumper and hit the poer button and the puter would NOT boot...

On these DFI's it WILL boot with the jumper in the clear posistion but it wount post...

I have cleared the cmos on rig in sig and hit the power button with the jumper on the clear and powered down and rebooted with it in the run posistion...

I have had good luck with that board and I have done other things people havent had good luck with...butI know not to push my luck...

this thing maybe are weird.

but. u can try if u can get the blind flash with a simple FDD.

make the autoexec.bat and the awflash and the bios rom.

in a floppy.

sometime when i get 4 leds i got the blind flash scenario.

but doesnt work for me. i think that the floppy makes error. in my case.

but i hotflashed in a biostar NF2 chipset. with tmod cd5.

another thing.

put the 100mhz fsb. try with 2100 stick. and make sure that all are connected.

only the nessesary. only agp cpu and memory. u don need hdd and cdrom to get post.

when i was in my first 4leds. a got a month without the mobo alive.

dont worried. something could work.
