michaelzhao Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Just what the thread says. I can't get speedfan to run. As soon as the program starts, my computer instantly reboots itself. Is this a compatibility problem with the NF4 Expert? What temperature monitoring programs do you guys use? Any suggestions? I definitely need one that will actually turn down the fans, not just display the temperature.
mackster Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Speedfan apparently does this to all Expert boards, scared the crap out of me when it did that to mine - thought it fried my board. I use MBM5 with a hardware fan speed controller, not sure if MBM5 can adjust speeds via software.

freakyGameR Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Better use the stock ITE smartguardian (come with mobo's CD) to control the fan's speed.. Then monitor it either from the ite or the (good one) optional MBM5. I'm sticking only to this ITE though...

soundx98 Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 SpeedFan - On the Expert/Venus boards it will shut them down completely if allowed to scan the mobo. You need to create a shortcut in Program files telling it /NOSMBSCAN or you will have a nightmare.
cre3d Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 SpeedFan - On the Expert/Venus boards it will shut them down completely if allowed to scan the mobo. You need to create a shortcut in Program files telling it /NOMBSCAN or you will have a nightmare. its actually /nosmbscan Right click your speedfan shortcut and in the "Target:" input at the very end, put a space after the last quotation and add /nosmbscan Hit ok and run speedfan and you should be good. The problem occurs when speedfan scans the SM bus on the expert board, for some reason it causes the computer to shut down in a power saving mode.
