AMD Athlon 64-bit 4000+ 2.4GHz

Hey guys whats the 411 with this prcocesor? Incidentally I always wanted to know why does AMD list there processors as xxxx+ does that mean its possible to overclock it to that speed?

No it doesn't mean it can do 4GHz. The best you can do is probably 2.9GHz.

 

At any rate, the names of AMD chips don't really mean anything, you just have to know what clock speeds they represent. The 4000+ are good CPUs but for less money you could get a 3700+.

Now is a opty @2.75 better than a 3700+ @2.75, for gaming? Not benching.

No, just opterons tend to overclock better so you might be able to get a less expensive processor and push it further than your 3700, but then again you might not.

I thought the 3700+'s go to 3.1 if water cooled and given you have good ram, then again there is always chance that it will not get past 2.75.

 

I already have the chip. I just wanted to to know if there was any advantage over the other in gaming.

3.1 ? ...id says thats extremely rare my friend - from what ive seen the 3700+ mostly go anywhere from 2.5 - 2.9 (thats what most people run them) - i run mine at 2.75 24/7 with no problems (stock voltage)
