bunit Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Ok, to get straight to the point I have been having issues with my system ever since I put it together, despite all my attempts to fix the issues I have had no luck. Basically what I am experiencing is my computer will consistly lock up, the screen will usually go black and sometimes come back, other times will require a reboot. Now this happens when I do simply thing like go on the internet or take a screenshot and try and save it in ms paint. I have yet to find any solution to this. Now what I have done most recently is I have had the motherboard and video card both sent back on RMA and recieved 2 new ones back, I have also upgraded to a OCZ Powerstream 520W Power Supply and I do have all 4 connectors on the motherboard plugged in, I had hoped that upgrading to this powersupply would solve the issues as In was running an antec 450W previously. I also have the PCI-E Power Adapter from the power supply plugged in. Upon my re-installation of these parts I also reinstalled windows xp sp2 , as well as flashed my bios for the motherboard with the most recent version. I am also running the most recent driver from ATI. Check my sig for all details. Now I have loaded all optimal default settings in my bios and the only thing I have changed is boot order and the temp at which the fans run. My ram is installed in the orange dimm slots on the motherboard. Now I checked my voltages and temperatures in the BIOS: ATX +3.3V Voltage 3.28 V ATX +5.0V Voltage 5.08 V ATX +12V Voltage 12.15 V ATX +5VSB Voltage 5.13 V Battery Voltage 3.11 V CPU Core Temp 31 Degrees Celsius Chipset Temp 43 Degrees Celsius I also have ATI Tool Running and Have set my Fan on my Video Card to 100% and the temp is 38 Degrees Celsius. I also had a friend on mine run my video card in his system for a few days, where he tested it with 3DMark for 13 hours and played a few games with no issues. I need all the help I can get, I am stumped and so frustrated at this point I dont know what to do?? PLEASE HELP ME!!!! P.S. Ill attach some screenshots from CPUZ to this post. Ohh and I am writting all this from Safe Mode, fun stuff.....

bunit Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Well I tried setting those memory timmings exactly in the bios and they did not work, as soon as windows loaded up I got the blue screen of death, so i just loaded the optimized defaults again. bunit Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 you think the memory is cooked? This is the 3rd part I will RMA, Im am about to cry, lol I remember when I initally had the problem with the locking up, I would get a ATI Error stating that the Graphics Accelerator had stopped responding to the driver commands and ATI has reset it. I dont have the catalyst control panel installed right now so i dont get that error.
cull Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 well, at least your not me, rma ram (twice) PSU(three times) Monitor (once) Video card (once)
bunit Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 thats true! I would be getting pissed even more! So are you pretty confident that it sounds like ram and not the video card based on the issues? Also is there any other bios settings that I should configure initially to make this system run stable? Any special PCI-E Settings? cull Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 not that I know of, but it does sound like memory problem
bunit Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Ok, ill RMA this as well. I really hope this will fix it. I have also read there were issues with the new ati catalyst drivers, at lease the new 6.4 version is that still true or are the "stable" now? I am going to run memtest on my memory as well. Should I try running a single stick of 512mb instead of the two to see if there is a issue with just one of them?
