tigerbite Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Even though there is another thread going on about overclocking the X2 3800, I have decided its probably better for me to start my own. This is my first DFI board and I have lurking DFI-Streets for weeks before I went out and bought one earlier this week. Anyways, I am trying to push the little sucker to 2.7GHz, if possible, but anything after 2.4GHz, I don't get the "Verifying DMI Pool Data" (I think thats what it is, not in front of my pc right now) and it just restarts. It does this over and over if you leave it. Now, my previous mobo, Asrock 939Dual, could do 2.66GHz, Prime95 stable overnight, so I think I can at least hit 2.7GHz with my DFI(but you never know right!;-)). Most of my settings are on auto and my ram is TWINX1024 3200C2PT at 3-3-3-8 T1 (but will be using a divider for for anything above 2.4Ghz). Is the RAM possibly causing the problem to not go above 2.4GHz? I thought maybe it was the factory bios too that came with it but I flashed to 11/14/05 bios and it still does the same thing (I did a load optimized but did not clear CMOS before overclocked). In any case, if you are a X2 3800 user or you have some tips, please send them my way. I appreciate it and DFI-Street is by far the best mobo site I've been to!
WoWchamp Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Your 3800 X2 may be labled a toledo, but its acutally a tolchester. Its a toldeo core with half the cache physcially disabled. Their has been no evidence that this core OC's any better then the true manchester. First off leave as few settigns as possible on auto. You want to manually enter all your ram timings, your cpu mulit, cpu vcore, htt multi atleast. Bumping the PCI-E frequency from 100mhz to 101-103mhz has helped people get better stabler OC's so thats something to expirement with. Make sure you hae a good strong PSU with stable rails. Investing into another cooler may be necessary as you didnt get the AMD heatpipe cooler but the other one which stinks. Pickup an Arctic Freezer 64 pro for about 35$. I would suggest also doing a 32M super PI calculation with that Prime95 testing you do. If you can get 2.6ghz stable on one of those, Id take it all day long. Thats a good OC for that chip

I have manually enter my ram timings @ 3-3-8-3, cpu freq @ 240, cpu mult @ 10x, cpu vcore @ 1.35V, ltd bus @ 16, and ltd mult @ 2x. Bumping the PCI-E frequency from 100mhz to 101-103mhz has helped people get better stabler OC's so thats something to expirement with. Have not done this but will try doing that. Make sure you hae a good strong PSU with stable rails. I think my Antec Truepower II 550W is sufficient. Investing into another cooler may be necessary as you didnt get the AMD heatpipe cooler but the other one which stinks. Pickup an Arctic Freezer 64 pro for about 35$. Currently using Kingwin AWC-1 water cooling kit. I modified the bracket, though. Forgot what the exact temps are during idle and load. I can tell you that the water block is cool and not hot at all. I would suggest also doing a 32M super PI calculation with that Prime95 testing you do. I haven't done 32M Super PI but will do that when get home. If you can get 2.6ghz stable on one of those, Id take it all day long. Thats a good OC for that chip Agreed. Even @ 2.6GHz I would take in a heart beat! UncleDavid218 Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Check the overclocking database for a good idea on what is the best OC with your system configuration... Read the overclocking guide if you haven't already, and if you have, read it again.
tigerbite Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Check the overclocking database for a good idea on what is the best OC with your system configuration... I have looked at some X2 3800 in the overclocking database for ideas as well as in people's sigs. Read the overclocking guide if you haven't already, and if you have, read it again. Yep, I'm re-reading it again. I used to be a Intel overclocker. I just recently got into overclocking A64. At first, HTT/LDT completely screwed my mind. Now, I have it somewhat figured out (all the relations between cpu freq, cpu mult, ldt mult, and ram) but don't call me a pro. lowboy Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 You just need to read OC guide and tweak away till you find your max. When running prime and other test you need to run 2instances at a time on dual core cpus here is how:http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...ghlight=prime95
