not all peer to peer is illeagle. i myself do p2p for legal fansubbing of animee.

tyr VLC media player. i think that will be what your looking for. very small program......LOTS OF FEATURES.

Absolutely! It's actually a very useful tool to avoid overloading a server, but still keep up the accessibility. Many Linux distros can be downloaded this way since there might not be a powerful enough FTP-server available.

mkv is a new format. higher compression than avi. fullsurround encoded.also lets you have multiple trak options for subtitles/languages ect.

for example:

a 25 min avi file dvd quality is around 180megs.

mkv is about 150.....and you can have the option of several languages subbed. on/off.

Divx is nice for .AVI files. IMHO, the older versions were better (less doodads/stuff I don't need). I'm using 5.1.1 (you can probably get it from oldversion.com)

You can deselect what you don't want before installing, I only installed the codec and the converter.

MKV is a codec not used often but a good one to have.

I had to install the VLC player to get sound in one movie file as the K-Lite codec pac host site I found wants you to pay membership befor letting you d/l it. Perhaps K-Lite codec pac is hosted on another site, but I wanted to see the moveie ASAP.
