Thraxz Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Well, I'm back to the drawing board. After being prime stable for 8 hours @ 2.8x10 9/10 2.5-3-3-8 1T I've slowly decended into less and less stability to the point now that I cannot complete 3dmark01 at 2.8x10 7/10 2.5-3-3-8 1T with all other settings the same. I ran with custom settings that tested 800mbs ram (total)... failed in seconds. I then ran dual prime with large FTTS and it would fail after several minutes. I then tried dual priming with small FTT's and it ran for 30 minutes before giving me a blue screen of death saying their was a memory dump error. Help! steelballzz Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 hi can u plz be more specific about your ram....... have u tryed memtest?
PORSCHE911 Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Its definitely your video card. I'm having all kinds of issues with the 7900GT especially the EVGA one. Do me a favor and down clock it to 450/700 and I guarantee it will get thru 3dmark01 Please let me know the outcome.
Thraxz Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 I dropped my ram divider to 7/10 (200 speed verified via zcpu) and I've primed for 13+ hours and then reinstalled 3dmark01 and I've run some decent times. This ram is my weakest link. I think there are compatibility problems with the SLI-DR and Rev. 2.
reelbf Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 I dont know about compatability issues that RAM should work fine because I use the same stuff (or think i do). Whats the cooling like in your case? I have 2 120mm fans blowing air out at the top and back and that keeps my system nice and cool. What kind of temps are you getting from PWM and the chipset? I know you have water cooling but how are the rest of your temps whats the lowest you can get the air cooled components too? I'm trying to find the ambient temp inside the case here. Just my thoughts, Ben jones Ps. I really love the sig but I am having trouble reading the right side (the red text).
Thraxz Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Let's just say, mine are cooler than yours and leave it at that. Alright, alright... Idle:-----cpu|29 gpu|36 chipset|35 pwmic|35 Load:----cpu|45 gpu|50 chipset|52 pwmic|52 Ambient: ~80F+/-5 EDIT: Thanks, the right side is because I used MS paint on it and it sucks. It's the temporary version until I get the gumption to put a good one together with a better program.

Alright, alright...Idle:-----cpu|29 gpu|36 chipset|35 pwmic|35 Load:----cpu|45 gpu|50 chipset|52 pwmic|52 Ambient: ~80F+/-5 I must stop saying things like that because my chipset is at 42C and it was at 36C I think I know why this is but thanks for waking me up. With temps like that your RAM cant be overheating thats what I was thinking about. EDIT: Thanks, the right side is because I used MS paint on it and it sucks. If you want a good image editor have a look for a program called gimp its a linux program but its been ported to windows. Edit: If you want a powerpoint style app have a look at openoffice also a linux port. Good luck with that RAM I'll post again if I have any good ideas, Ben

With temps like that your RAM cant be overheating thats what I was thinking about. Haha I know, I was joking. The real point was that though, those temps prevent it being heat casing this. reelbf Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 I think you have 3 potential problems here: RAM, CPU and Motherboard. The RAM well it shouldnt be overheating (it annoys me that there are no sensors for it) but you havent said what voltage your dimms are running at I really dont think they are overheating but voltage could effect stability alot. You could change the RAMs Command Per Clock to disabled (2T) and I think theres some other setting that improve stability but I'll get them when I reboot I dont want to give you the wrong info. It sounds likely that your RAM is flakey and needs to be RMAed. CPU Definetley isnt overheating but the memory controllers in the CPU so it might be worth lowering the multi alittle but the only good way to test the CPU is to run it in another board with different memory and youve got water cooling to deal with. And the motherboard well you could try flashing to a newer BIOS and try setting the HT ratio to 3 so it stays well below that 1000Mhz mark. RMAing the board would find out if the MB is the problem but that'd be desperation. Well those are my ideas ive been trying to read up on this stuff but the weathers not letting me get anywhere so i spend alot of time on my racing bike instead. Thraxz Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 I strongly suspect it's my memory controller based on the fact that when I drop the multi to 8 and return to stock vcore it'll run at 250 for hours. Also, if I drop it down to 270x10 I can run at 500 for hours. Only at 280x10 do I have problems and have to run a huge divider to 200 it'll dualprime for 13+. ANYTHIng higher 200 and it has problems. reelbf Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Oh dear so it sounds like its the CPU then. Well if you can get it stable then thats something and you dont have to replace it right way so maybe you could save for another one...
Thraxz Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Oh dear so it sounds like its the CPU then. Well if you can get it stable then thats something and you dont have to replace it right way so maybe you could save for another one... I really want to be 2.8GHz stable... badly. Looks like I won't be hitting that anytime soon. I ran a repair install on windows and I've gotten 2.8 (7/10 divider) stable for 6 hours 40 minutes on dual prime before a core failed.... I was very sad that it failed that late in the game. I wonder if it's possible that my MoBo could be causing this issue? I have no idea how it could be the MoBo but I can RMA a MoBo and not this CPU and would really prefer it to be that. How can I possibly test if it's my mobo's fault without someone else's CPU in hand.
