jadit2 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Even with the RC-RE heatsink + arctic silver, my chipset still goes up to 54c within a hour or two of FEAR, Quake 4, or Rise of Legions. My case is rather ventilated too. I hear it can take up to 300 hours before the arctic silver kicks in fully. How much more is 'fully'? A degree or two? At least the RC-RE is really quiet. red930 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 RC-RE? Don't you mean the EverCool VC-RE? Did you properly install it on the chipset? Doesn't sound like you sit it up correctly and how fast are you running your fan on that chipset now? I don't know....it doesn't sound good.... ReelFiles Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 How much thermal compound did you use? A_G has a new video tutorial on installing the VC-RE. HERE
soundx98 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Have to ask, is the fan spinning? My 1st one was frozen.
DrNick Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Remove it and make sure its making good contact; chipsets are FAR from flat and nothing like a cpu. I have never seen any difference by letting AS5 cure as they say. The temps I get 10 mimutes after applying are the same I get 2 weeks later.. whackattack Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 i think my max temp is about54 too with vc-re, but thats when the vid card is at 70 and blowing all its hot air in the chipset, if i put vid card in second slot, wich i dont like for gaming, it drops 10 degrees, dunno if you are in the same situation also i have about 30 cfm of air coming from the front helps, and yea, it sure is quiet, i would think 54 in gaming isnt critical, while 65-70 is a concern but never made my comp crash, id say 54 is just cozy when gaming, just maybe you have room to lower it a bit more edit: as a comparison, my idle temp is 42 with the fan running at about 5k rmp, ill come back later with temps while gaming but could be around 49-

Same here, went down to 50C @ 1940Rpm ~45C-47C with it on full blast, but it's annoying to me at that speed.

shicx1 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I agree with you DrNick, I never notice a difference in temperature when the Arctic Silver 5 "cures".
jadit2 Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 I ment EverCool VC-RE. The fan is going.....at about 4820rpm. (I set it to full on all the time....it doesnt bother me) I followed the http://www.angrygames.com/chipset_clean-1.htm guide to the tee. My idling speed is 46-47c and 54c gaming. Sorrento Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Just wondering, whats the PWM temperature? Your case could be too hot inside and it would require increasing ventilation performance in order to remove all the heat generated by the video card and other components. Ambian Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 My idle temps on my Chipset dropped by a full 10 degrees celcius. This was also using Thermalright compound (yes yes, i know, I got it all read to put together when i couldnt find my as5). I did find the Chipset far harder to clean than the CPU, probably due to the stock TIM on the DFI fan. I currently run my fan at 3900rpm and its basically silent, the only time you hear it is at boot up when it goes to max and then winds down again. I DID install my SI-120 at the same time though so the whole airflow in the case no doubt improved dramatically. With the VC-RE made of such solid copper i imagine that any extra airflow you can get to it will aid its cooling abilities nicely.
