liko Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 Yeh the rumors about Pentium 5 has started, Rumours put the front side bus speed as high as 4000MHz, making the chip faster than a greased up slippery weasel. None of the details are final specs though, but start preparing your 3 GHz P4 for the news that it's not going to be the fastest thing on the block anymore Source: Click here What do you think? d3bruts1d Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 I think this belongs in the CPU forum, not the OS forum. <_<

Ziggy54354 Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 a 6ghz processor by the middle of next year huh... i doubt it
liko Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 (edited) Yeh same, sounds a bit too fishy. But hey', ya never know any thing is possible. Edited October 5, 2003 by liko
bigred Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 6ghz is technically possible. but intel has more marketing sense than that. they'll milk it for as long as they can keeping speeds down and prices higher. and as it stands right now I have NO clue what intel is doing with the Prescott "P5" since I've seen 4 totally different chips with that name in the lab. I don't know if intel even knows what they're going to ship exactly.
AYoKoNA Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 Go INTEL J/k. Im just still pissed cause they said the chip was gonna fit the i875 and still have the 800fsb. From what red told me Intel isn't doing that anymore. <_< Freakin intel. I can't wait till the prescott comes out though. Now I have to buy a mobo and processor. <_< Red do you know exactly when there releasing Prescott.
bigred Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 no idea. but my guess is that it's going to have a 64 bit core to it, since they've got the lawyers holding up xp64. I've seen 2 different sockets to it, close to a dozen chipsets, different ram, everything keeps changing. HT, no HT (since they went 64 bit only the xeon has been showin HT capable)... I dunno what intel is doing, I dont' think they do either though.
AYoKoNA Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 Do you know if there ever gonna bring Rambus back or are they finished for. Someone told me they read in a report that Rambus is coming back in 05 or 06 with a better performance?
bigred Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 rambus is DEAD. I've seen DDRII but no word on rambus. so far speeds have been upwards of 4.2ghz on them, which is fast, but I've also seen white papers on 10ghz tests from intel... makes you wonder
FanATIc205 Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 i think in the near future its not going to be about mhz its going to be about speeding everything else in the system up to get better all around performance .look at the 64bit amd cpus goign to the on die mem controller really help it out even thou it has a low mhz rating
TypicalSloan Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 yah im starting to care less and less about how fast of a cpu you can make when everything else in the system is a bottle neck, doesnt make sense.
