2x 1gig?

Hey, have been out of the loop for quite sometime thanks to a very fast and stable rig however I been wanting to test out 2 gigs of memory but would like to maintain my current clock speeds if possible. I have a A64, 754 1mb cache running @2.5 with 2x 512 Patriot Memory running at 2.5-3-3-7 on a 250 UT. Been rock solid and couldnt be happier but would like to pop in more memory for some new gaming titles and prehaps do more multitasking.

Anyway, can anyone recommend some 2gig kits that can possibly handle these speeds and timings, better or come damn close? I know that 2x 1gig sticks don't OC too well but perhaps there are some new chips out there that can handle it. If possbile I would like a kit that would also do well for future upgrades for dual channel N4 boards. Around $250 budget if needed. Thanks. ;)

OCz PC4000 Gold XTC or OCz PC3200 Platinum both 2x1024, both cheap, both will do well at 250Mhz.

Samsung UCCC modules are decent for low voltage, and if you can get some Micron 5B C/D you can probably top 285-290 on the RAM with ~3.0v . Mushkin XP PC 4000 uses UCCC, same as G.Skill HZ kits. The OCz Plat XTC micron, and the non-XTC uses Infineon CE-6 which are also decent clocks, better timings, but not as high clocks as 5B or UCCC will consistantly hit.

Thanks for the quick response. I looked up the memory and found these 2:

According to the reviews the Gold XTC looks to get some sweet numbers for a nice price. If those are the sticks you were referring to then I'll go with them. Lovin the DFI :D

I have complete stability and great speed for the applications I run, but I never could push decent performance from this particular set of 2x1024 on a Newark core. Nevertheless, keep us posted as per your findings - I'm really curious.

If you have any luck, I'll probably pimp these into an office workstation and try a different brand or variety...

Thanks,

the g.skill HZ's will definitely do 250, and i have seen them get up close to the 290-300 mhz range. browse the forum and you will find MANY people who are happy with theirs. i have a pair runnin at 250 right now and they are rock solid. cant go wrong with OCZ either, but if you are wanting to save a few bucks, newegg has the HZ's for $164 which is a dang good price. keep us posted on what u get...

HZs will not do 290-300, they are samsung UCCC, and will only do about 260-270 in most cases. Check XS's 2GB overclock database for some legit screenshots and benchmarks on the various RAM ( http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=67762 ), the 5B that I recommended is definitely aheard of the pack, and will cost more for sure. The UCCC is cheap, pretty good, but won't do 300Mhz roflmao

The OCz Plat 2x1GB It's $204 in stock @ NCIX (I buy all my stuff there, excellent place) http://www.us.ncix.com/products/index.php?...gy&promoid=1068

Thanks for all fo the feedback guys. This is truly the best forum for anyone with a DFI board. I went with the OCZ gold since the company has an excellent reputation and awesome support, and the $40 MIR puts that kit at $162.99 final cost. I'm not really looking to stretch the performance further than I have but I may get hit with the tweak bug again and decide play around with it to see if I can squeeze out some higher numbers.

I'll let you guys know what happens.

/cheers :)
