holokaustos Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 I'm starting my first modding project and I've already started to realize that the foundation--- the motherboard --- will need to be seriously bad. The foundation of this mod IS the mobo, so I need to get one that is top-notch. No mini, just standard sized, so does anyone have any ideals? I would like at least a 2.8 Ghz+ processor, but I've never had to hunt for a mobo before. Intel or AMD? Integrated graphics or AGP? Price is really not a factor, so fire away; all suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
bigred Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 well, I'd avoid anything with integrated video. an agp card is the way to go. if you want 2.8ghz intel is the only way (unless you go by the xp rating system then you can go amd). my suggestion would be to stick with Asus, Gigabyte, or MSI. holokaustos Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 1. Where's a good place to buy a mobo? 2. Do they come with their own warranties when bought separate from a packaged computer? 3. Is there any specific company I should stay away from?
justinal Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 1 newegg.com hads a great rep around here 2. yes they do depending on the mobo usually 1 year or more as long as you are doing normal things with them 3. no not really some people will say companies because they have had a bad experience but for the most part just buy a good quality mobo
bigred Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 they all have individual warranties, best place to start looking to buy them is pricewatch. avoid: abit, soyo, chaintech, most ECS, pc chips, amptron, matsonic, epox, hsing tech, and the kings of crap (no my list at least) FIC
holokaustos Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 Okay, thanks all. Any more suggestions, leave them here... Bye!
syneze Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 Here's some advice: don't avoid Abit. Asus and Abit make the best overclocking boards for Intel CPU's no debate.
bigred Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 he asked about warranty and support... rules out abit right there.
syneze Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 when I had problems all I had to do was to go to their forums and got an answer in about two hours..
gouber5585 Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 yea, don't be dissin on Abit because of their warranty. He wanted to know what mobo is the best, not the ones with the best warranties. I've personally never had any bad experiance with my abit kd7, its been chugging along for about 6 or 9 months now.
Guest FxXP Posted October 10, 2003 Posted October 10, 2003 The reason why I havn't chosen A-Bit is due to all their complaints on AGP issues, memory support, stability, leaking capacitors (old news I know), and price. 2 revisions of NF7 to fix a BIOS corruption issue? Yeesh..
