Help! Northbridge fan stopped...Melted!! Dfi Ultra-D

Recommended Posts

On my DFI ultra-D the Northbrige fan stopped and part of the fan melted!

Picture here:

**DFI sticker fell off and fan is melted!**

What should I do? Where can I get a new fan? Do I have any alternatives?

Any suggestions would help!

Thanks

kaddy69 - I have never seen that happen before.

As the previous poster has said the Evercool VC-RE is an excellent replacerment for the DFI chipset heatsink.

I have been told that NONE are currently available in Canada and I do not believe that SVC ships internationally. If you can locate a supplier that will ship to Canada I'd recommend you place the order.

Please PM me and I will give you the email address for someone at DFI that can help you.

Hey kaddy69, Im not sure if you read my un-edited post, but if you did I would like to apologize if I came off sounding harsh. I tried to write my responce in a joking way, but after reading it again...I sounded like an butt. Sorry for that and welcome to the club. Thanks soundx98 ;)

replace the original fan, (better also replace a good CPU heatsink), like this    :

Keep pics to 800x600 or less

I believe it'll work, I think some people a while ago use it...might have to bend to brackets a bit.

Make sure you have some air moving across it though, it should give much better temps than the stock fan.

I think jab-tech.com ships to canada and they carry the evercool:

It is a little tricky to install (the pin spacing is a couple of milimeters wider than holes in the MB) but I think it will be better than that Zalman cooler. I think you might have clearance issues with the video card and the fins on that one... I remember seeing a photo where someone had bent them around the video card... not pretty but functional.

Anyway, the evercool performs great for me. My temps are always below 40C since I installed it.

If that board is still under warranty I would see what your retailer is willing to do for you. In the worst case scenario you'd have to return it to DFI HQ in the states.
