Ghost2520 Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Did they ever fix the cooling problems with the Geforce FX 5600 Ultra and that problem where it fried from being in screensaver mode for too long? Cause they have gotten pretty cheap and I thought that it would be a significant upgrade from Ti 4200... also what do you think is better? A Ti4600, or a Radeon 9800 Non pro? Thanks. Overclocker16 Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Go with 9800np over TI4600. The FX 5600 question. I believe they fixed it when they found out...but I wouldn't get one if I were you.
Ghost2520 Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Why not? I looked at the clock comparisons between the 5600 Ultra and the 9800np and it seems the 5600 is better and cheaper...
sykocus Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 do you mean the fx5600 or a 5900? the 5900 models are marketed against the 8900 models, everything i've seen show they're pretty close in performance, depedning on the type of benchmark used. so i doubt the fx5600 is gona be able to touch a 9800. right now it's not about clock speeds, its more about memory bandwith and the raw processing power of the gpus. Ghost2520 Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 I was talking about the 5600... I'm not willing to spend more than 150 on a graphics card, and since the 9800np is at 170 thats close enough so I figure it will be there in a month. TypicalSloan Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 yah the 5600 gets spanked by the 9600 pro so theres no way its close to a 9800np. I would seriously stay away from nvidia, i just switch to ati and im super happy with my 9800pro.
Ghost2520 Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Heres the problem... (not to be picky) What sounds cooler? Radeon of Geforce... easily Geforce... only kidding, its just the 5600 is only $130...
Ziggy54354 Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 First of all, the geforcefx cards other than the 5900 series suck. second the 9800 version your looking at is the SE version, which sucks. In conclusion... get a 9600 pro =P or wait and get a 5700 ultra or 9600 XT which both look promising.
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 Radeon 9600 Pro! B)
AYoKoNA Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 I second, third, or fourth that can't count, The 5600 is so sluggish, the ti4600 will smoke it. But i will say that the 9800 pro rocks. If I could change my card i would get the 9800 pro 256 version. With the money u have $150, just stick a 9600 pro 256 mb.
bigred Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 fx 5600 is meant to replace the mx 460!!!! the 5600 ultra can almost catch the ti4200. IMHO don't touch an FX card. if you're going to go nvidia get a ti4600/4800
Ghost2520 Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 I think I might go with the 9600 Pro, how is this in comparison to a 9800 np? My friends getting 9800 np and well, I can't let his comp be better than mine so which would be better? 9600 Pro or 9800 np?
