running a peilt on the res

I was thinking about attaching a peilter to a aluminum res.

I have found a water tight ally box, which i am going to drill and tap inlet outlet barbs then strapping a peilter to the out side with a h/s i hace a homemade case which seperates the cooling/rad from the rest of the rig so any condensation formed arround the box would be isolated from the main components

I'd like to run a full peilter system but not to sure if i want to gum up my mainboard like a full pelt system but this should keep my temps lower than just water

any ideas, thoughts would be appreciated

1. You still need to keep the hot side cool - somehow.

 

2. You better get some good fluid, that spots is going to be pretty damn cold and the tubes in the radiator are pretty thing, can freeze easily in there.

I have been thinking of doing the same thing when i get my WC setup. Mostly i have just been doing research to get ideas, but really it will all depend on how my setup runs after i get it. All you need is a HSF on the Hot side of the pelt to keep it cool...

If you do set up a pelt water chiller please post how you did it with pictures so we can see how you did it.

i've got an old thermaltake volcano 8 i think this would be strapped to the hot side of the peilter the ally box is about 6"X4"x2" it will hold quite a bit of fluid i run with antifreeze(came with the swiftech kit)outlet at the top and maybe a channel or two in the box then the inlet?????? not sure yet will test with an old system first

You will also need to insulate the aluminum box around the area of the pelt to prevent condensation forming. My guess using a heatsink and fan to cool the pelt is going to net 5 degrees cooler maximum. Slap that pelt and a cold plate on the CPU and really do some cooling.

yeah i've been thinking of that but don't want to glue up my shiny new board just yet condensation round the bow is no prob my case has a seperate sealed compartment for the rad, pump and res the pipes go throuh a sealed waterproof wall

It's not quite as effecient as water cooling but, with the quality of heatsinks these days I would say it wouldn't be too much of an issue.

Depends on the size/power of the pelt too.

If you were to try to aircool a 226w pelt with air......no way. Maybe something up to 120w, with good cooling, anything higher it couldn't handle it.

 

Have some fun. Put a 226w pelt on your CPU with the volcano. Turn on the system and click a stopwatch at the same time. Time how long it takes to fry the CPU and melt the HS.

i don't think a high power pelt wound be what im gonna use saw this and thought well it's cheap and got a pelt with a h/s already

well after some fiddling and cussing i got it to work did a test run on my nf2 board and got about an extra 6 degrees of my load temps with a slight over clock and no condensation issues i think i'll get another 3or4 with a better psu i'm only using an old atx cheapo didn't want to spash out until i was sure that it would work gonna get some pics for you if your interested

overall not bad for a modest investment
