Puma/Sire Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Is my PSU enough for 1 7900GTX and 2 gigs of ram?

Puma/Sire Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 But your PSU is only 450 watts and the only thing I see is that Nvidia recommends a 400 watt power supply for 1 card?
UncleDavid218 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Our systems are completely different. I have one 7200RPM hard drive, one CD drive, and integrated audio, along with probably less voltage on my CPU. Also, my GPU is less demanding than the 7900GTX is as it not only gives out .1v more on the core, but much more power is needed for the extra 256MB of RAM. I made the mistake of getting this PSU before I knew about DFI-Street, sue me, but if I were you I'd get a good, high quality PSU. DFI motherboard demand much more and cleaner power than your run of the mill ASUS or Gigabyte. What works one those may or may not work on a DFI. _unexpected_ Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Nope, go with a nice Silverstone Strider. They're 600watts of fun. More than enough for your power hog you got strapped in your rig:) Even a 550 is highly recommended over the one your stating in your post. sgt.baker Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 You might be ok.Mine only has 450 watts.Check out my signature. I wonder if I could get more out of my cpu with better psu.
UncleDavid218 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Read everybodys signature here and see what they are happy with. I see very few, if any, with the PSU you want to use. The OWNER of this forum (a good one at that) even said not to use it. That alone should be reason enough.
Puma/Sire Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Antec neopower is a good PSU I'm just worried if 480 watts is enough. And I still haven't seen any true facts that prove these statements that 480 watts is not enough. I don't want to go blow another 100 dollars for nothing you know what I mean. Freakin gas prices have blown thru the roof. lol
UncleDavid218 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 We're not telling you this so you have to re finance your house or anything... lol... just giving advice which we know to be MOSTLY true

Should be proof enough A_G recommends it, as what he says should definitely be listened to - especially when a DFI board is involved. Don't beat yourself up on this. If you already have the PSU give it a shot, some people get lucky and have great results even with sub-par power supplies, but the reason we recommend more powerful ones is that it can resolve a lot of stability issues.
