Good Evening...Words from an Old Newcomer.

Hey Everyone. I'm new here and just wanted to say hello to everyone.

I didnt think i'd be back into the PC building game so soon. I guess it was foolish of me to think my XP 1700+ (running at XP 2000+) would last for whatever I was doing at the time. iTunes, Web Surfing, Papers for grad school. It worked fine, and I had my Xbox for gaming (modded of course) Life was sweet.

Then....everything went kaput ( damn motherboard), so I found myself relearning the PC game.

Socket 939--Socket 754--Dual Core....jeeze, I guess I was away for a long time.

So with a lot of lurking in various forums (this one especially) i decided on building the system seen in my sig. I said F getting a new MB, I'ma do the whole shebang.

And here I am. I suppose I am a reborn noob, so if I ask anything too stupid, please don't flame too bad. A couple of sparks are ok.

THanks Guys. I look forward to becoming a contributing part of these forums.

Thanks a lot guys. The only thing I am trying to decide on is whether or not to get a new case (i have a lian-li pc 65 with the dual 80mm fans in front) or just use this one, and to go LCD or stay with my pretty nice 19" CRT.

I've also been reading up on the different types of heatsinks. I read in the OCForums about people using the 4400+ AMD heatpipe heatsinks, but I am having a problem finding one of those anywhere. Even on Ebay, there are people selling the old ones and then gouging for shipping.

So I guess I'll figure it out. Thanks for all the well wishes and if anyone has any opinions about anything just LMK. I'm a teacher so I can handle criticism.

Welcome to the street,

You missed this deal last week:

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messagevie...=y&keyword1=amd

However if you read it carefully you can find couple of posts that the company will e-mail back when they are in-stock again ($17 is a very nice price for a good heatsink)

You can call or e-mail them, otherwise xp-90, freezer pro 64, si-120, and big typhoon are my favorite heatsinks.

It's gonna be a very nice rig. Perhaps you can find a "used but proven overclocker on air" cpu. Check out this thread (i sliced and diced the excel spreadsheet there):

Good luck!!

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement!!!

On the cooler issue. I did my "homework" and went with an XP-90 with a 92mm panaflo fan. I figure that's going to be effective enough for me when i just "mildly" overlock.

The word mildly being very relative to one's own situation.

I think i am going to go LCD and use this cheapo steel case with an aluminum frame. AT least it has 3 exhaust fans (80mm) and 2 intakes (one side 80mm and 1200mm front). I got it from a computer show a year or two ago b/c it was like 19 bucks. So that solves that issue but if anyone can reccomend a LCD i'd appreciate it. I think i'm learning towards a dell. ALthough the viewsonic one with the 2ms refresh would look OH SO SWEET during COD 2 and Madden.

Chime in with any ideas for me. Thanks guys and gals!!!
