bigaldo974 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I have an Opteron 170 and got a 0550 UPMW! Now to overclock it........... I'm not interested in anything above, say, an aquagate mini r120, which leaves mostly air cooling. Here is what I gathered from research, and I am just looking for the best temps possible. FORGET NOISE. ThermalTake Big Typhoon Vapochill Micro Extreme Performance ThermalRight XP-120 or their new one that doesnt interfere with the RAM, the SI-120 Cooler Master Hyper 6+ Raidmax Glacier (Fan Failure Issues?) Which one of these is best and howwould it perform compared to an Aquagate Mini R120?
Wi-Fuzzy Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 The aquagate will outperform the air cooled solutions by about10%-20% on temps...thats life. That said most of the coolers you have listed would be fine. I would lean towards the thermalright si 120 just for the reason it will help cool your ram..if the ram slots are in the right place. I have an xp 90 with a 110 cfm fan (noisy) and do not plan on changing any time soon. 3000+ venice @2.6 idle 23 C loaded 35C. Hope this helps

BlindGuardian Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Everyone seems to run a big typhoon. If you can afford it look into watercooling, it's more fun building a WC system in and of itself then any OC'ing, but only if you like learning and researching but anything worthwhile is never easy. Grunt_Style Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 my CPU is at 40c right now with my zalmon cooler. its 82 degrees outside my truck. earlier it was 120 degrees outside. i forgot to check. but since im not in southern texas anymore it wont get nearly as hot. tomarrow ill be in louisiana. so the humidity will play a role in the temps. usually though when its nice outside i get temps avaraging around 36-38. my computer runs 24/7 with no overclock.stock settings. twigert Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 The Hyper 6+ is a great cooler. Its humongous but provides a lot of air flow. I had idle temps of 26-28 on my 3500+ venice w/AS5. I don't recommend using the thermal compound that comes with the heatsink, since AS5 from 50deg @ 100% load to around 42 and 32-33deg down to 26-28deg. The only problem with it is that a replacement 100mm fan can be very hard to find and the grills and catch dust easily.
