tarkins Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 I have a strange problem, when I download files over the internet I have an average of 150k/s. But when a friend want to send me a files over MSN messenger or over his private FTP I can only download at 2-3k/s (the friend isn't the problem, I have try with few other persons, same prob). I have a DSL connection (connected by a router, DI-704P). Should I open some ports? Which one?
LobbDogg Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 Is that all you've ever been able to get off them, or was it faster at one time, if it has always been slow, maybe the ISP has capped the upload to that speed.
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 If that is the case then maybe you have ADSL? Your download speed will be much greater than your upload speed
sykocus Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 he's downloading either way so it doesn't matter what the difference between his upload and download speed is. it would matter what the friends upload speed is, also i would run a tracert to the friend and see if the you're getting some lag along the way. Guest FxXP Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 I second sykocus's opinion. Those other people look like they are on 56K of some sort.
tarkins Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 no he's on cable. And when he send the file to an other person, he upload it (the other person received it) at 100-150k/s The problem is on my side? Which ports should I leave open? Veritech Posted October 1, 2003 Posted October 1, 2003 I've noticed very slow transfer speeds via MSN... I think MSN Messenger caps transfer speeds, to prevent users from possibly sending large files (apart from Linux ISOs, and some other rarities, imply illegal trade) while using their clients.
