Wal-Mart controls modern game design?

Recommended Posts

The control Wal-Mart has in the retail segment, not to mention our economy in general, is frightening.

Read yesterday they're looking to get into the banking industry. Crazy.

Didn't they just open a store in China? Ikea has. The Chinese ministry is addicted to starbucks and Coke (the drink).

I will say this I am guilty. In the past year I have made a very high return on my money in the stock market. I invested in energy, tobacco, and well walmart. I have recently divested myself of these stocks.

I have decided and started to give away over time 75% of the gains. I have also started to support not-for-profits.

The guilt was too much. I guess I will stick with my government salary it is fair. Having a conscious is very hard. This means my pc upgrades will have to wait longer than my planned spring 07 time-line.

Another inflammatory bit from the Drive-By-Media!!!

Just realize that they are not interested in retail banking like your bank.

They want to start their own "bank" to handle money transfers between Wal-Mart and other financial institutions. There are hundreds of large companies that already have their own bank for just such transactions.

It's not a big deal until someone says Wal-Mart. Did you know that retail banks already own their own separate banks to deal directly with the Federal Reserve?

Wall mart is just about the only place open 24 hrs. They dont screw you over on returns and there prices are hard to beat. Big is not completly bad thought the censorship sucks. You got to realize they started rural and have done a lot ot reduce the cost for the rural shopper but they would not put up with tons of porn and the like. It is just as much the market dictating what comes out as wall mart dictating what gets published. Yes I shop there for games too who else is there except on line?

The only time I shop at wal mart is for christmas, if they have a good deal on something, or for school supplies if I don't go to staples. I think the last game I ever bought there was Mario tennis for N64...lol.

Does WalMart really control the games they choose to sell?

I question their powers they have over the game industry for I do not belive, nor have I seen solid proof, they are in as much control as many have been lead to believe...

Since Wal-Mart is the worlds largest retailer they can dictate what they sell. If a product has objectionable content they will refuse to stock it.

That's a pretty big market to ignore.

Some recording artists produce a special "Wal-Mart" version just for their stores.

"Because Wal-Mart reaps about 10 percent of the total domestic music CD sales, most musicians and record companies will agree to create a "sanitized" version specifically for the megastores. Sometimes this entails altering the cover art, as John Cougar Mellencamp did when asked to airbrush out an angel and devil on one of his album covers. Other times, musicians change their lyrics and song titles. Nirvana, for example, changed its song title from "Rape Me" to "Waif Me" for the Wal-Mart version."

I have a problem with the term "censorship" since the artist has the choice not to change their creative vision. There are other outlets for their music so they have a choice.
