All 4 power connectors

Recommended Posts

Just a question: Do all 4 power connectors absolutely have to be plugged in? I believe I only have 2 plugged in atm, and it powers up fine. (floppy style not plugged in, don't think hd is plugged in either) Am i about to see a crisis happen, and what is the purpose of having all 4?

Thanks

Well to give you a simple answer, they're on the board for a reason...so yes you should probably plug them in.

Yes, all four power cables should be plugged into the motherboard. Most people are able to power up the motherboards with only the 20 pin and 4 pin power cables in, however the floppy power cable (small 4 pin cable) and the molex cable (larger 4 pin cable) help to ensure that the motherboard is stable. This is more important when you are overclocking the motherboard, and you need to ensure stability, however everybody here will tell you that the cables should all be plugged in even if your motherboard is running fine without.

I believe there is also a forum rule, laid down by the Power's That Be, that any help on these forums will only be given if all four power cables are plugged in. This is because a very large number of problems people are having is because not all of the cables are plugged in.

Hopefully this will impress on you that you should use all four, and good luck.
