I've seen conflicting articles on whether its even worth trying to crank the RAM past 200/400 I understand the idea of changing settings, then benchmarking, and even went so far as to make a spreadsheet, but the settings yielded very little differences and it took a ton of time and crashes to figure out that 3dMark03 is a terrible way to test bios settings. Sandra is some help, but .. I want to overclock "some" but not into the area of rediculous. Say to 3.3GHz or so. 1) What are the suggested RAM timings, voltage? 2) Suggested CPU Voltage 3) Should I overclock the Radeon as well (currently OC'd a few percentage points, but it artifacts if the memory clock is turned up more than a few percent) 4) Any other suggestions that don't involve water-cooling to get more juice out of the system would be appreciated Thank you kindly for any comments you take the time to make. Hades25 Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 well dude. you have lots of options....the first one i suggest is searching through the forums for you answers with all that.....everything is different on everyones system...personally i like to jack everything way up till it crashes and then back off .... timings, fsb, mulitplier, etc. ..sometimes some ppls rigs run better at lower fsb speeds and a higher multiplier...and vice versa ... and about voltage i dont know crap about those intel thingys
bigred Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 P4, can't change mulitplier and hades is right. it varies by system, so there's no saying "yes it will do this by doing this". also try the way hades said too. crank it up till you find problems, then bring it down till it doesn't. that' the only way I overclock a system. AYoKoNA Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 (edited) what mobo do you have. I got 4% increase from my intel board. A small overclock with no temp increases check the increases on the ram and processor in sig. Edit: BTW nice system, I look back now and wish i had that vid card, stinking nvidia for dx9. I thought Intel made it so you can't OC on their boards. Maybe you meant a different board with an Intel chipset?
Will Smith Posted September 27, 2003 Posted September 27, 2003 recommended is getting a Asus P4P800 or P800 Deluxe board. fastest mobo on the market. since u got a 3.0 its really a watse of money if you will overclocking. roughly you o/c will be about 3.6-4.0 on air. anything past 4.0 you will need water or vapor cooling. I had a 2.4C up to 1200 fsb as the marketers like to put it (300fsb really) that was hitting 3.6. good 50% o/c on it. Also pc3200 is good memory for running stock speeds but i would drop that and get some 3500 atleast. the P4 "C's" will get nice high fsb's and your will want the memory to match that. GTSticky Posted September 27, 2003 Posted September 27, 2003 (edited) Thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my post. My board is the Abit IS7-G with current bios. Upgraded to 1GB Geil PC3500 Platinum running DC mode, and am playing with the settings now. I read some articles about RAM and have a decent idea of what to do. So far I'm at 2.5,8,4,4 @ 433MHz and it's running fine. I'll play with the settings and see if I can tighten them a bit, but I can live with an 8% overclock for now. Cheers, Edited September 27, 2003 by GTSticky

The new I875 INTEL MOBO allows you to under or overclock the I/O 4% Edit: Not a huge over clock look at my sig for the diff's and thats at 4% overclock.
