O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 Well I went by the old STRUT(StudentsRecyclingUsedTechnology) Lab yesterday and come to find out they are vacating everything inside and throwing/sending/recycling it out. I went through the entire building and found 2 nice Gateway 17" monitors, a new keyboard, mouse(not optical) and 2 10Gb Seagate HDs. I am going to install them into my older system which will dual boot Redhat 9 and WinXP Pro. Not a bad find huh? B) I should have taken those 2 KVM switches I saw but oh well. Their lose is my gain hehe

General912 Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 I dont see why they dont reuse. I mean just because its older dosent mean it cant be used. I hate these kinds of groups that do this. They think that its a few years old that it needs to be throwen out. I know when i see some fairly large (10gb+) hard drives i grab em never know when you might have someone whanting an upgrade. bigred Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 don't knock it. it's a great way to build a budget second/third box. Heck I got my hands on a dual PII 450 from the school distrcit, cuz it needed some tlc and wasn't covered by dell's warranty (it was less than 9 months old too). you'd really be suprised at the volume and quality of stuff that schools and worse yet hospitals pitch. my dad is the IT director at a hospital, and he calls me when ever they're thowing some good stuff away. Last time they cleaned house they threw out over 100 pefectly working 17" samsung crts (I took as many as I could get), a few sony 21" crts, 24port switches, a router or 10, 19" racks (cuz they didn't match the other 100+ compaq ones they have), boxes upon boxes of black logitec usb optical scroll mice (cuz someone didn't like usb mice), and all kinds of crap like that. lets put it this way, I have a 2 1/2 car garage, and filled half of it with just monitors stacked to the rafters!
