Help me choose a PSU for this mobo and set up

Recommended Posts

basically, I recall hearing certain PSU's have issues with certain DFI mobo's so I thought I'd better ask in here. Out of these, which would you go for?

PCPC 510 SLI £160

Fortron FX700 Epsilon £95

Seasonic S12-600 £100

Enermax Liberty 620 - £105

Unless you have any other suggestions.

many thanks

Stick with the top two.

If you get the PCP&C 510 make sure to get the ASL version that has the appropriate 8-pin adaptor. Though I do have the SLI version with the 4pin and use an 8-pin adaptor with no problems.

Frankly, PCP&C all the way. OCZ modstreams are very good as well but some of the newer models have issues with this board

If you are concerned about paying £160, then the much cheaper Forton has proved itself to be a bargain, and in comparison to the last two - even though there's been improvements and that some maybe is simply an unfortunate coincidence - it looks like it hasn't failed to run any Expert mobos yet.

On the other, I'm just recommending - like BlackDragon24 - something I myself own. But I've seen that RGone is very pleased also with how the Epsilon performs. However you never go wrong with a PC P&C (but don't expect it to that very quiet in comparison).

I'm leaning towards the Fortron here.

It also happens to be the cheapest of the bunch.

I just hope it wont clutter up my case too much.

Ok a couple more views would be nice, but appreciate the opinions guys!

The Epsilon has really long cables. For a bigger case it's probably a dream to work with, but if you like I have a mid-tower it takes some thought to get it neat.

I have a Coolermaster Praetorian 732.

is that considered a midi-tower?

It's a midtower, however don't view the long cable as negative:

- some more planning and you'll get everything tidy

- who knows what case you'll have in the future? The long cables might become handy someday.

Yea thats true, soon as I move to a bigger house in future I'm switching to the Silverstone Temjin TJ07 or the Thermaltake Tai Chi.

that is if my budget at the time allows it :P

I would go with the Fortron as well.

The 2 7900's are huge draws. The PC P&C may be able to handle it as well, but I believe the Fortron gives you a bit more "head room"

nVidia recommends the PC P&C 850 for dual 7900's. See here

Yea but I cant afford that lol.

Thats like the price of a top end GPU in itself.

Id rather a cheaper PSU, and spend the extra money on VF900's and volt mod to past GTX speeds which is what I'm doing.

My 3dMark05 score is already 13800 and 06 score is 8700.

I'm hoping I can tip the 14k and 9k and get even smoother fps in Oblivion.
