Guest YuKoN Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 here's a link to voltmod your card. see post#20 to adjust to:1.3, 1.4, or 1.5 volts!all that's needed is a conductive paint pen(available at radio shack). the pen is for tracing circuits or automotive rear window defogger repair. also easily removed with alcohol or acetone if you ever need to RMA your card. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?threadid=176625 this topic is also very hot and viewable at xtremesystems.com just tape off where you don't want to spread the ink(for safety) and draw in the lines like in the picture. No soldering, removal/replacement of resistors, or permanent damage of any kind. I haven't tried this yet as my card is just in shipping atm. i will be doing this mod as soon as my card arrives. for 1.4 volts and above, VF900 cooler or w/c is highly recommended. i'm getting the VF900, and probably will keep it down to 1.4. read the posts- many MANY people are achieving GTX speeds and above with this mod. UncleDavid218 Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Might try it.... But at 16 I can hardly afford to kill a $360 card!
Guest YuKoN Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 it's good to be cautious- i'm like you- i can't afford to kill a card either! reading the posts- i can't find one post of a dead card from this mod. a few had to wipe it off and try again because the painted line is very small, but most are successful. if you read what's posted you'll stay out of trouble just fine. just like any other mod, if you're not comfortable with it, do not attempt it. I'm not too comfortable with the tiny resistor mods. or soldering and voiding warranty on any brand new card. so this mod appeals to me because if i get artifacts or unstable performance i can just wipe it off. and there you are right back to stock again. please don't think that i'm recommending anything over 1.4 volts. i think that is for the extreme, and for extreme cooling solutions. i'm after what i can do best on air, and maintain stability. it's the same reason i only run my machine at 4.1. i can boot much higher, but this is the happy medium
Voltes-5 Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Just did it, and got up to 665/1660. 3dmark tests looking good so far. Cooler is a Fatality FS-V7.
Guest YuKoN Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 any others with results from the mod yet? just wondering what to expect- still have a week or so to wait for mine to arrive
Bullhonkie Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 I did 1.3v on mine and can get up to 645 core. I always bump it down 5 for benchmarking and another 10-15 for 24/7 usage. So my startup settings are 620/850 but I've been able to run rthdribl at a max of 645/870 with no visible artifacts. I'm kind of tempted to try 1.4v now but at the same time I'm kind of chicken. A fellow on the Anandtech forums can do 700 core at 1.4v and I think my card has a chance as well. I was able to hit 585ish max stock, so 0.1v bought me 60mhz on the core. If it scales linearly to 1.4v (which is no guarantee) I'd have a good chance at 700.

Thraxz Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 I'm happy with my 9906 05 and 5464 06 3d mark scores now considering my 7900gt will only OC to 560/850 right now.
zarathrustra Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Ive done the 1.4 mod on my XFX Extreme, the 7900GT is running completly artifact free at 620/1840, and pulling a little over 10300 in 3dMark 05. My card had a factory OC at 550/1600, and was pulling 05 scores of 9776 pre mod.... but its nice to crack 10K. It gets a bit warm, close to 70 at times, so I may have to invest in some better cooling. Theres also a pencil mod for Memory voltage, but I dont want to try that untill I get the RAM cooling sorted as well. Its a pretty easy and safe mod, and I have yet to hear of it killing any cards. Voltes-5 Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 I'm not done yet, LOL, here is what I've done so far. Did the pencil mod for Vmem on this site, from 2.0 increased to 2.18  http://sg.vr-zone.com/?i=3330&s=2 Did the mod on the VGPU from 1.2 to 1.40 http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=1680776&postcount=1 Got it up to 665/1800, idle at 43, load at 48. currently testing a loop of 3dmark '01, '03, '05, and '06. So far no artifacts, running clean. Ran loop twice now and working on third, only '06 will spike up the temp at 52. No problem so far.
Guest YuKoN Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 i can hardly wait. my 7800GT ought to be at Evga about now....... Step-up takes 1-2 days to ship, and 7900GT co sc ought to be here soon. plenty of time to order a VF900...... Then, the volt mod! I've heard nothing but good results so far. the evga cards are doing well, but i think the xfx cards are edging them out by a small margin(in all the posts at xtremesystems anyways). but all in all the 7900gt is shaping up to be one heck of an overclocker! very nice to run at gtx speed and beyond! and for the price! feel free to post all further results you get- i'll post mine asap. p.s.- not sure why thread got moved? i believe i originally posted in video card section- maybe it's appropriate for mods section- maybe both. wherever the admins see fit is cool w/me.
