Serial Port on DFI Ultra-D !

Recommended Posts

Guest Vanquish

Hi !

I need to connect my WLL phone to my PC ASAP. It uses only a Serial port datacable (which ironically the Ultra-D doesn't have).

Now my questions :

1. Will the extendable Serial port cable of the SLI-DR fit on the Ultra-D ?

2. Is there any USB -> Serial Converter ?

3. Is there any PCI Serial card ?

Ok, ok, Is there ANY way to get a Serial port on the Ultra-D ?

Thanks for the help :)

There is such thing as a USB->Serial adapter. In the past I have seen them come with laptops that don't have RS-232 anymore. Not sure where you would buy one, though.

My Ultra-D (purchased in March of '05) has a 9-pin header right on the outside edge below the second PCI slot for an external serial port cable. The cable doesn't come with the board.

AFAIK all versions do have this header, mine of date July 2005 also do have it and it is working perfectly using a generi cable

Ohh yes I guess I missed it ;)

The port is there, now where would I get the cable, what exactly is it called ?

Also would cables made by other mobo manufacturers fit into this port ?

You need a Serial port header, anyone should work, for my ultra-d I used a header that i had on a very old 486-DX2 system, and it works just fine.

anyway, I saw some usb->serial converters and also usb->parallel in a local computer shop, so they do exist.
