willchua Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 between these 2:- OCZ EL Platinum PC3200 (512MB x 2) Crucial Ballistic PC 3200 (512MB x 2) Crucial Ballistic is cheaper by $50. I've read from review that both of the items perform around the same except that OCZ can OC higher. I've also read that Crucial Ballistic PC 3200 (1GB x 2) has high RMA. I wonder if Crucial Ballistic PC3200 512MB has such problem too? Any comment?
Voltes-5 Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 OCZ, they have reps here at the forums that you can complain to if need be. What other brand company does that?

_unexpected_ Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Just plugged in OCZ last night and for my new rig it worked right off the bat. TCCD, which Rev.2 is made out of runs at low voltage. From like 2.6 - 2.8ish. Dont take it any higher than that. Not sure what the Ballistics use. But yeah put it in the orange slot, #2, pressed the onboard on-switch and the DFI logo appeared with one red light. Go with OCZ

Any comment? in this match my personal preference is the ballistix.. even though i said ocz i still like the ballistix... ocz can oc higher? i dont know bout that.. heck i dont know anything about the el stuff. all i know is that its still good stuff. ballistix 3200 has an rma thing, but the pc4000 generally are the ones that are rmaed most often. i took the risk, but mine have been plowing through for over a month.. but mine are underclocked at ddr458 due to mobo. whatever you like... personally id like to see the ocing results of the ocz but generally ballistix love to oc.. its y i chose mine. last ones in stock at the egg EDIT why not go 2x1gb? i like micron chips so if i were you id take a look at team xtreem's 2x1gb set.. not as prone to die apparently. tankguys is like the only place that stocks them. just my extra 2 cents. arklab Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Very interesting post. Proformance of Crucial 2Gb seems unbeatable - as long as they live. A good review at Anandtech here. The max memory speed graphs here. Be careful while reading as some results are for 2X 512Mb sets, which can/should do better than any 2X 1Gb sets right now. Also I've seen what I'll call "speculation" that the Crucial Tracer stuff may not be failing as badly as the regular Ballistic sticks. I'm not sure if that makes any sense at all, but stranger things have been true. And the price is a real "gotcha", too. One Gb stick of the Tracer costs as much as a matched PAIR of some OCZ stuff after MIR. But then look at what I paid for my board! Of course, it works!
nobody Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 This is a hard one.....both are great....but I have had OCZ memory that didn't overclock very well, and then my Ballistix did/does. However in many years of computing, I have only had one set of memory go bad on me, and it was my Ballistix, but I can't exactly blame them, they are only rated for 200Mhz at 2-2-2-6 timings at 2.8v max i ran them at 250Mhz at 2.5-2-2-6 1T timings at 3.05v for about two weeks.......then dropped the vdimm after reading about Micron modules not responding well to overvoltage about three weeks after dropping it back to 2.8v, they started going nuts, even at stock clocks but the RMA process was fast and easy and in less than a week i shipped mine, and got back my new set, which is running strong at 280Mhz, 3-3-3-8 at 2.85v, not bad for PC3200 memory that cost me $115 i think the thing with Ballistix is not to overvolt them
