ACPI / HAL's

Buliding new system, for OCing & Fun

Getting cross eyed looking thru Sticky & searching for info.

I loaded Win XP pro using an SP2 Slipstream cd, all went Great  I noticed it loaded the "APCI Uniprocessor" HAL

Should I run the "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC" HAL?

Just woundering if the NF4 is like NF2 loading the wrong HAL by default?

I have read the Sticky in the 32 Bit NF2/VIA KT section:

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20000

Any advice for drivers & such is welcome

Looks like for Chipset is the 6.70 & skip the IDE SW.

Thanks

I let XP Pro pick which one to install and it works fine. It picked "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" and no problems so far....I posted here with your same question if you want to search for it and see the responses I got.

Skip IDE/SW?

WHY?

I had heard it was Problemmatic as was with NF2

With my NF2 it caused problems & was related to changing my HAL from the Default to ACPI PC, had some booting problem's both failed & slow boots. ( My NF2 I skipped the IDE SW)

I also heard the problems were Fixed at least with NF4??

I have read conflicting info here at DFI-Street in regards to NF4 using the IDE SW driver or Not.

Anyway's for what it's worth, I'm running my NF4 using the Uniprocessor HAL & I also loaded the IDE SW driver, I dont see any problem.

If I do I'll just reload windows & setup accordingly.

My intent for the Thread was more if the choice would have a direct effect on OCing

Additional input is welcome

Thanks
