It will eat whatever amount of pixels you throw at it. To play at a decent level, yes, a 7900GTX would do nicely. EDIT: But even that, F.E.A.R will bring it down to it's knee's driving that many pixels. FarCry will tax it, Q4, UT2K4, CSS, will all do nicely.

Dell Business has 2405FPW 24" for 759.24

search for 24053YR at $999 - $199.80 (instant 20% off) and apply 5% off coupon 72WVB652M9MZ27 (- $39.96) = $759.24. No Rebate needed.

Usually tax is charged unless you have a certificate.

to avoid ghosting you need around 16ms or less personally, i held off on LCD's till hey hit the 12ms range. i have a 19in samsung syncmaster930b , it does 12ms and i love it fantastic color. vibraNT, they sell for around $350 USD.

anther thing....widescreen. i personally dont really like it for gaming unless you get into the 30inch plus range. 24inch widescreen isnt really that great. youd be better getting like a 19-21 inch 4:9 instead.

If I were you I would wait little bit more. I think 2407 is on the way - they already start selling 3007. By the way, I read somewhere that D3ell will stop 2405 production due to its successor - 2407, which means used 2405's will be around $450-500 (just a guestimate)

wide screen gaming is great. I'll never go back. The only issue is not all games officially support it, so you end up with a stetched image or some wasted screen. There are work arounds that work for some games, but when a game supports it, and more and more do every day, its amazing. [email protected] by 1050 at max settings is fantastic. Of course, you need to be able to drive 1680X1050( in my case with teh 20") at decent enough framerates to keep it playable. So bring some beef in your gpu. I cant wait for my new 7900gtx. The 7800gt works well, but i still see some slowdowns in some games. the 7900 gtx with its 512 meg of memory should help with that.
