ellis Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 I can't seem to find any warranty information from DFI's website or the user manual that came with the board. I've only had the board for about a month now, and bought it because I was extremely impressed with the build quality and the features. Long story short, I've deemed the DIMM 4 slot to be defective. Anytime a stick of ram is in DIMM 4, the board does not post and gets stuck with all Diagnostic LED's lit. The board however will sporadically post with 2 dimms in 2 & 4 but when I go to reboot, nothing, until there is only 1 stick in Dimm 2. This all occured after I attempted to recase the machine, as it was working OK before that. (I am a systems builder for a local company and have built a few thousand computers, so I know what I'm doing in that respect: static-free/clean environment etc.) Anyway, has anyone dealt with an RMA directly with DFI? I took it back to the store I got it but they said it would be 4-6weeks through their distributor and I just don't have the patience for that, especially since its only 3 weeks old. They said it could be faster if I dealt directly with DFI. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks, ellis
smids Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Have you tried the 623-3 official BIOS. These boards are EXTREMELY fussy with memory and different DIMMs. I'd try that first and then see if the problem persists.
ellis Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 any idea why this would occur only after attempting to recase it? it seemed to work fine before ?? ellis
smids Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Hmm, perhaps the RAM took a hit of ESD and died? Have you memtested them since? Also, try removing the PSU connectors entirely and re-attaching them all - all 4 mobo connectors connected properly? I saw one guy on another forum who lost his overclock after recasing and it turned out one of his power connectors had not been put back in properly. One big thing to check, remove the mobo from the case, make sure nothing is shorting it and replace. Are you using spacers? Shorting out of something would cause that I'm sure. EdLSmith Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 There are several possibilities. First Question for you. Did you follow Init Build sticky? It suggests that you use one stick inthe orange slot farthest from the cpu. A reason for the suggestion is that you can not do single channel from either the first orange slot or the first yellow slot. To use the inner orange slot you must be using the outer orange slot. It would be good idea to follow stickies. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks to RMA the board. You will want to Email THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I'VE ASKED YOU TO NOT POST EMAIL ADDRESSES IN AN OPEN FORUM AND YOU STILL CHOOSE TO IGNORE US. YOU CAN TAKE A NICE SEVEN DAY VACATION UNTIL YOU BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYTIME YOU POST EMAIL ADDRESSES IN OPEN FORUMS, SPAM BOTS TAKE THEM AND WE GET 1,000'S UPON 1,000'S OF SPAM EMAILS. THIS IS A TOTAL LACK OF RESPECT ON YOUR PART. WE DO NOT DISREPSECT YOU BY POSTING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS OPENLY SO YOU CAN GET ALL THE SPAM, YET YOU CONTINUE TO DO IT TO US. HOPEFULLY AFTER A LITTLE PUBLIC HUMILIATION AND THESE GIANT RED BOLD WORDS YOU WILL BEGIN TO ACTUALLY HAVE A LITTLE RESPECT FOR US AND NOT CONTINUE TO POST EMAIL ADDRESSES ON OPEN FORUMS. HAVE A GOOD 7 DAY VACATION. for assistance. He usually offers to check boards of people in US if they want to ship it to him. Did you flash new BIOS after you received the board. It could have had corruptted bios. Let us hear what you want help with. Someone is usually around, Good luck with the board. ellis Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 i appreciate all the quick feedback on this. after updating the bios, i think i've gotten the memory working properly. I was getting memtest errors before i updated the bios, should probably test that again now. now its loooking like a defective hard drive. the 2 week old WD 250 is causing win xp to not go past winxp load screen.. take that hard drive out of the mix, everything works dandy. best test hte memory again tho. BTW, no one really answered my first question, What is the warranty on these boards? 3 yr?? EDIT: okay maybe not.. went to switch the system on and got blinking LED1 & LED6.. switched off power supply, unplugged the 80GB, and now its going. running a memtest again. I KNOW the memory isn't bad, as i've tested it on another rigg.

ellis Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 could it be a psu problem or a problem with the outlet? my apc battery backup seems to think the power is clean, but the apc surge arrest i have plugged into the outlet underneath says there is a wiring fault... ? this mobo is doing really bizare things now though. memory tested fine, and everything appears to work ok until i try and boot with another hard drive attached (although sometimes it boots fine..?) the hard drive is plugged into the PSU at all times so its always feeding it power, only when i connect the sata connection does it give me trouble. bizare.. i should probably explain everything from the beginning. i will continue to test stuff and if i continue to have issues i will. THX.
