THunDA Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 edjahman.. I dont really understand why you'd want to go from a x2 4800 @ 2800mhz to a opty170.. I mean there is a chance that the opty will clock a little higher but I doubt that much if any.. I mean 2800mhz with 1.5vcore is pretty nice.. With that said I love my opty !! I am in the exact same situation. I have a X2 4800+ however it will only clock to 2.7 GHz @ 1.425v on air. If I add any more vcore it will error in prime within 5 minutes. I do not believe temps to be an issue as the cpu does not go above 45c. So I did buy an Opty 170 CCB1E 0550VPMW with hopes of going 2.9 - 3 GHz. Worst case it wont clock as high as my X2 and I will sell it. Best case I get 3+ GHz and sell the X2 for more then the 170 cost
malvare1 Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 you could probably sell that 4800+ X2 on ebay for close to what you paid for it, invest part of profits into a Opty 165 CCB1E 0550VPMW, or 170 of similiar stepping, and still have $$ left over to go towards a 7900GT purchase, i wouldn't waste my time with a 7800GT, go for the 7900GT and voltmod to GTX Opty 165 0550vpmw was ok for it's time but not even close to the CCBBE 0610DPMW . I agree and As far as I know the 4800 x2 also has the nice 2 mb L2 cache that the optys have. The main reason I was looking at 165/170 opty is because they have the bigger L2 caches that the lower x2 don't have. The 165 for example is a nice cpu because it has dual core and big L2. Only the multipler hurts it.
