Takoma Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Could it be the voltages? maybe not enough kick? Take Care
~LynX~ Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Sorry guys these are all good tips but i can't help you until 9pm (24 hour cmos clear) is there any way to check the voltages? it's pretty much a sure thing now that i am going to RMA the sucker. how do i go about RMAing it anyway? can i call DFI? i have also heard that PC4000 DDR 500 RAM has problems with this board. anything related there? should i just RMA my PSU as well? ATI even wants me to RMA my Video card. They just want me to split up my system and send it to the four corners of the earth. As you can tell i am pretty reluctant to do this but i am sick of useing the computers at the library in order to chat with you guys. thanks for the imput though
fmskrimp Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I'm almost having the exact same problem as you have, check: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49229 Did your Power LED also blink when trying ot boot?
~LynX~ Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Not that I noticed but i'll be sure to check when I run the 24 hour cmos clear in a couple of Mins. Also, I never flashed or updated my BIOS, (it worked great why change it?) Good luck though,
~LynX~ Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 What do you think i now have the new RAM and another PSU and i am about to power the rig after the 24 hour clear should i hook up the old PSU and RAM or swap them for the new stuff? ~LynX~ Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Okay Guys I did the test. First off, after I cleared my CMOS for 24 hours I started my RIG with one Chip of the PC 4000 RAM in it. It started and let me into the BIOS. Awesome! At least now I don't have to RMA the board. However, I set the date and time and then saved and exited the BIOS. Great, it the restarted and I entered the bios again and loaded the optimized defaults (now once my system starts it has no problems restarting from a warm boot.) Then I went and changed the DRAM Frequency Settings to 200 (DRAM/FSB: 1/01) I exited and saved. However, I wanted to see if it would run with both RAM chips in there so I shut down the system and stuck the other chip in. I powered on the system and hit the delete key. Nothing, same error as before. I decided to do a 15 MIN Clear of the CMOS. Fired it up again, Nothing (I know allot of you guys are rolling your eyes out there but wait it out.) Well great I wasn't going to wait around and do ANOTHER 24 hour clear unless I had to so I decided to take out the RAM I just stuck into the system and see if it would boot. I did the clear CMOS for 15 mines and then turned on the system. Again same error as always. Well nuts, looks like I would have to do another 24 hour clear anyway. But for kicks I decided to try the Good RAM I got from my friend in the system. I plugged one chip into DIMM #2 and fired it up. It came up beautifully! Not a single error nothing. I then decided to try the second chip in the DIMM #4 slot. Powered down the system, stuck it into the slot and fired it up. Again it came on with NO problems Well that pretty much means that my RAM is either bad, or incompatible with my MOBO, so it looks like I will be buying new RAM here shortly. Anything else I should do? Or any tips on what I should buy? P.S. it made no difference if I swapped the PSU so I don't think the problem lies there. I tried it with both types of ram and it gave the same results. The other RAM type was Corsair Platinum XMS3200 TwinX 256MB 400MHz CMX256A-3200LLPT P.P.S. i am Emailing OCZ to see what options I have and if i can get a Replacement. it looks like DDR 500 Ram just won't work in a lanparty ultra-D

rebelangel Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 i think you should try the ocz in your friends computer if it doesn't boot or fails memtest then at least you know for sure it's the ram and you know that you are not rma'ing good memory. p.s. a second p.s isn't p.s.s. but p.p.s. ~LynX~ Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Thanks for the FYI Any Recommendations on new RAM? Do i need to do any BIOS updates? i will try to use my RAM in another system to test it to see if i should RMA it. according to the specs on the DFI global site this ram should work with my system. perhaps the bios just needs to be updated what do you think?
