OCZ Gold GX 2GB (2 x 1GB) or OCZ Gold Edition 2GB (2 x 1GB)

I have a pair of Corsair XMS C2 Platinum 2X1GB currently. After "upgrading" from my OCZ Rev 2 to these, I want OCZ again.

The thing is I don't know which of the two I'm looking at are better overclockers overall. They have the same timings and seem pretty similar...

they are similar

pick one based on price and begin enjoying them ;)

(I have both the EL's and GX's and they are practically the same...I like the GX's because of their light honeycombed heatspreader, but honestly they aren't any better than the EL's)

Hey guys...

Amazingly enough, using the search feature turns up exactally the same question I had - thereby avoiding the redundant question, and getting yelled at by Angry

Of course, thats bound to happen sometime - I've got a lot of questions :P

I've been reading DFI-Street lightly for months now, heavily in the past few days as I get closer to dishing out money. There are some pretty wonderful people here, and I would like to thank everyone out there. Sharp in particular, as he helped me over on Geil's forums alot as well.

My current build was a pre-made contraption, and if I knew now what I should have then, I never would have gotten it. Which leads up to my Rig in Progress...

Bought a good PSU for the mobo, and the next step is memory. It was down to these two choices too, and based on the steller recommendation, looks like the OCZ5002048ELGEGXT-K

On a side note, I wasn't really able to find much info on the I.C. chip types. I read the NF4 Memory Advice sticky, and there was just a blurb on the UCCC type, which I believe my ram of choice uses. Should I be concerned with the UCCC vs TCCD if I only intend to do light-medium OC'ing?

I am also building a budget minded system for my brother as a high school graduation present, and with an Ultra-D board, would the pc3200 OCZ ELDC-K work well in either 512mb or 1024mb flavors? He will not be OC'ing now, but in the future it is a possibility.

Thanks for all the help again guys, Keep It Up!

EL's and GX's are both UCCC-based

TCCD and UCCC are different...TCCCD won't come in 1GB modules

don't be too concerned...the UCCC's all overclock fairly well, and it is pretty rare to get a PC4000 2GB kit of UCCC-based memory that won't do about 260-ish (i've seen some go as high as 275, but that is also rare lol)

if your brother digs games, like BF2, FEAR, Quake4, etc...then dont even consider 1GB of memory...stick to 2GB as that is really the minimum now

Correct

TCCD is not dense enough to be used on 1gb modules.. the majority of 1gb modules use either uccc or some sort of infineon chip.

:D

i picked my ballistix due to its high ocing performance.. i have yet to oc it though. :(

He does play games, but nothing on the level like those. More like the Warhammer 40k, AoE, Rise of Nations...nothing real memory heavy or intense. And me personally I've been playing bf2, UT2k4 pretty well on my current machine, and thats just with 512mb Kingston with sub-par parts.

Aside from the 2gb which would be nice, it is a budget minded system with good up-gradability (sp - :O ) As far as the type of ram goes, it would be a good choice, right?
