mwh3 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 I built a computer five months ago which hasn't given me any problems until last night. When I hit the power switch, the cooling fans and chipset fan came on for one second then shutdown. I could not even get to the BIOS screen. I broke the computer down to the motherboard video card, and RAM, and it continued doing the same thing. The standby LED was on, but when I try to boot, the DRAM LED blinks once. I tried another power supply and got the same thing. Has anybody else run into this problem or has any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. frosty15 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Have you been running your cpu overclocked and if so for how long and at what voltage?
red930 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Have you tried running only one memory at a time to see if you have problems with one or another? I remember when i shorted my ASKRock board awhile back but it just stood there with the fans on but never shut off. When you said that i thought it would be a weak/bad PSU, but you have tried another one and still gives you the same thing. I still think it would be motherboard if none of my suggestions work. Is there any other components you can throw at it for further testings?
mwh3 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 I haven't tried overclocking it yet. I did try booting it with one RAM stick at a time, and still got the same result. I don't have any other components to try either.

mwh3 Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Update: I pulled the CPU and turned on the power, and the board stayed on. When I put the CPU back in, the computer would not boot. What in the world is going on? Is it the motherboard or the CPU?

cdrgold Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Im not sure if i can be much help but my friends pc would start up then shut down after 2seconds aswel. He changed his PSU, MOBO, HD, and graphics card. In the end it turned out that his DVD drive was broken and this was stopping the pc from booting. So try changing your CD drive see if that helps.
