weird booting up issues

Recommended Posts

i heard some clicking sounds on my HDD and i was installing some stuff so i decided to reboot the pc but when booting up it remained at the lanparty logo. i rebooted at least 2 times but the problem remains so i attempted to clear cmos and it worked!

so i tried loading the dfi optimised settings i took frm this nice place and the problem remained, the com hung at the LP logo.

this time round, i cleared the cmos again but changed the time and boot sequence and i am fine!

*seems the clicking sound is gone too.

If your hdd has started clicking then it is time to backup your data, just in case.

I had a WD IDE hdd which started clicking and the noise gradually worsened, within a few days I got a SMART message telling me to backup all my data as the hdd was failing. If it's relatively new and still under warantee then I'd suggest rma'ing it.

When they're on the way out sometimes they boot and sometimes they don't, one day I had to reboot 12 times, when it finally came on it was too far gone to backup, BE WARNED!

There's nothing worse than loosing all your stuff with only a costly recovery specialist the only chance to get it back.

I now use Seagate, all their hdd's have a 5 year guarentee, this won't stop them from failing, but at least you have piece of mind about a replacement.

i left the com running for a week and when i came back the problem remained.

it took ages to even get past the LP logo and i decided to clear the bios.

after clearing, i noticed the marvell lan port isnt there at all when i did enable it.

anyway now i am wondering when is the next time it will just crash or something.

is the prob with the PSU or the HDD ? (new hitachi 80GB)

Your SIG says it all dude...

and I quote you.... "Some Cheap PSU".....

DFI NF4 boards REQUIRE a minimum 480Watts 24pin native quality PSU

I wouldn't be surprised if you PSU killed your HD with bad power....
