A Crazy Idea For A Quiet PC

Now I have tried several things, but I can't get my computer quiet enough.

I have a 2 120mm panflow fans and a thermaltake 7 with a regular fan the temp ajustable wouldn't let my motherboard post. So I have a crazy idea.

here it goes since I flipped my fan around to suck instaed of blow I got about 1 degree lower tempsfurther more when I removed my U cover ( this is a modded AT full tower it went down a few degrees more.

Now I have been thinking maybe I can reduce the noise by eleminating my heatsink fan all together. I would let the top panflow fan do the sucking instead. I was thinking to get myself some sort of sealed rubber gasket and put it on top of the heatsink then take a 40 mm tube and connect it to some sort of rubber gasket covering the 120mm panflow in the backtop. hence increasing the sucking power by almost 28 cfm or less if I ajust it down and at the same time getting rid of the cpu fan noise. what do you guys think? Furthermore I'm planning on modding my ps so it will be quieter and since I got two tiny fans blowing in(harddrive trays) and it really doesn't matter how the cool air from the front bottom panflo fan gets exausted it might as well be through the heatsink the ps fan also will take care of some of it.

Just a crazy idea

I'm not sure if you want to do that I've never done anything like that...I believe that the way to measure how loud your system is going to be is not by how many fans, but by how loud lthe loudest fan is. You could try getting a Zalman fan bracket that you screw in by your PCI slots with the PCI screws...These support a 92mm fan I believe. If you go up to a 92 mm fan you will not need to have as high an RPM because it ca nspin slower and achieve the same CFM as a 60 mm Heatsink fan thus reducing noise with a lower speed. I would maybe even change out your hsf for a Zalman one because they are supposed to be quiet, and I have heard that a Volcano 7 is extremely loud so it is not for you...Have you looked into maybe buying a low-end water cooling system so that it eliminates noise and possibly cools better. I have seen one for $100 on www.exoticpc.com and Ebay will have better ones cheaper. I'm not sure if you want to spend money though. I wouldn't remove your fan, though. I hope that this helps.

How about a water cooler. it's realy quiet. You probely don't have one for the same reason I haven't. To expencive. I think that cpu fan is the most important fan you have. I would recommend making switches to turn the case fans of then your cpu isn't working to hard. I have a noise problem aswell. My computer is in by bedroom, and it keeps running over night. I don't have a side penal to let some heat out I need atleast 1 casefan before I can set it back in. I was thinking to place one in the front of my case. I have a special spot for it so the noise stays down, and I need one on top, or in the back. I'm defenetly going to use those swiches to turn them off at night. You might want to use some oil in your fans. If you can get some nice highquality oil it would help a bit. I believe sewing machine oil is very nice. a few drops in every fan sould help.

There is one more think. I think be directing the airflow from outside your case should also keep some of the noise down. how about making a tunnel pointing back, up, or down depending on where where you want your hot and cool air to go.

those are all my ideas.

Your idea is pretty good. I think I'm gonna try some of it, but with the cpu fan.

thanks

good luck
