sir jman Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I just build my new system (sli expert/opteron 170) and I am planning on overclocking it. What are some essential overclocking, monitoring, stress, and benchmark utilities? I was going to download Everest but found that it has been discontinued. The obvious programs I can think of are cpu-z, prime95, superPi, and 3dmark.
Sw4y Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I would also recommend playing some games for as long as you can. People have been getting 8+ hours of prime stability and going into a game and it crash. I would shoot for gaming stability as well. try to play games that depend a lot on your CPU. HL2 and BF2. rhiridflaidd Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ Puts more stress on the memory than superpi; and superpi and this together works really well to spot problems.
Urufu_Shinjiro Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 You might want A64 Tweaker also, shows you what all your ram timings in windows, shows you what that "auto" setting is really set at.

Will that work with dual core opterons?
sir jman Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Also, is there a disadvantage/risk with overclocking though a utility over doing it directly in the BIOS?
